I'm tickyboxing "Writing" because I feel optimistic (another name for this is "last-minute panic", because today's the day I'm supposed to post my wordcount!), not because it's happened yet.
I totally do end up writing things I don't anticipate; I have an entire story that happened by accident (I looked at a prompt for a pairing and a dynamic I'd never even thought about... and two thousand words fell out of my keyboard in under half an hour. I'm still a bit baffled by that one, years later.) More recently, a fic that was supposed to be a short, fluffy smutlet developed a tonne of sappy build-up with light worldbuilding thrown in... and then developed a gigantic chunk of Seriousness and borderline-angst. How's that for a derailment.
Oh, and then there's the fact that today should have been all about me writing my Dave/Sollux thing, and instead it turned into "read all the Rose/Sollux instead". Even my writing plans don't always go according to plan!
