Discussion: beta. Do you use a beta for your fics? Do you beta for other people?

I use a beta if a challenge calls for it (and that usually ends up being Mrs. Samu, who also writes), but I generally trust myself to self-beta, most of the time, especially in fandoms where I am the only member (which is most of my fandoms, as I have noted here before). But! I do freely offer my beta services to others, too, even for fandoms I do not know (because commas are a thing).

I used to use a beta, but for some time now I self-beta. I might check with another writing friend or my son if I have a question about a plot point, but I take care of the other beta-ing myself. I have done beta work for others from time to time, but not recently, as I have enough going on with my own work and writing that I can't really afford to add something else at the moment.
