WIP challenge - day 7 check-in!
It's my last day doing the check-ins for this month -- tomorrow I hand over to
lola_mento. Thanks very much to everyone who's volunteered to do check-ins, hooray! If something comes up & you can't take your shift, please let me know ASAP & I'll find someone else (or step into the breach). Also feel free to experiment w/the format of the check-in! (I think, because I'm a paid member & an admin for the comm, I should be able to allow any members, whether they are paid members or not, to post polls -- perhaps one of the check-in folks could let me know? If it doesn't work I'll check w/Support.)
Anyway! On to today's poll.
For a discussion topic, I'd like to hear about how folks get, & stay, in the zone when writing. We all have periods when we're more distracted than others, but I feel like sometimes I can't sit down to write without switching over to another window to look at DW or check Twitter or see if an e-mail's come in. Every other minute. I should probably use an internet blocker, sigh. Has anyone been able to improve their concentration or minimize distractions? What did you do? Somehow I still manage to write things even while flicking between tabs, but I wish I could focus more. Do you struggle with this?

The fic! How is it going today?

And what fic-ly things did you end up doing, then?

Your fic, in three words or less!

As to my fic: AAAAAAAAAH HOW SO AWESOME. I mean, I feel like I'm bragging, but... I JUST WROTE MY FIRST ASEXY LOVE SCENE, PEOPLE! And I think it may actually be good. :D
(Dang, I love these characters so much - as soon as I give them a specific scene to do and get my head cleared of distractions, they just blitz through it so fast I have to scribble to keep up! And usually make an offhand reference or three that inspire even more scenes in the process. THIS WAS SO EPICALLY THE RIGHT THING FOR ME TO DO THIS MONTH, YES. *bounces*)
Now I am going home away from the Internet to write more, because James is going to take his 12-year-old nephew Ross on a bus-riding expedition to nowhere in particular for fun! (Our bus system is utterly useless for getting places, but for being interesting? Especially when you are James, and therefore given to sketching little doodles of random people since at least 1975 or thereabouts? AWESOME.)

May you make much progress while the boys are away!

Also, going away from the internet sounds like it might solve half my problems. I'll print my draft tomorrow and try to work in a park.

But YAAAAAAAY for you & your fic, anyway! That's awesome that it's going so well & that you know it. \o/ Long may this continue!
Long bus rides for inspiration/people-watching--definitely!
