Do you prefer writing longfic or shorter pieces? Each at different times?

Today I wrote 500 words! I probably won't publish them (it's complicated), but I wrote them. :D I am getting so much better at writing than I was. I think.

I got some good work done on my AU big bang fic. Still building some nice structure into it now, but it's due today (the 1st) and I'm nowhere near done and I'm only slightly panicking just a little bit holy crap. D: If I at least had a coherent plan for where this was going, I could at least send it in with dot points and be happy I had a mostly complete fic. But my muses hate plans so I'm stuck writing as much as I can before sending it in. D:

I seem to more naturally tend to write longer pieces? But I can do shorter pieces as well. It depends on what it's for/what I'm writing/etc.

I day dreamed a fair bit, researched a little, but didn't write anything. I did finish up a few RL projects that were hanging over my head, so that will eventually affect the fic writing in a good way -- less chance of procrastinating later due to boring work that has to be done!

I seem to have a propensity for long fic, and I do like writing it. Maybe because I find it easier to say what I want to when I have room to expand! I do enjoy shorter pieces as well, though I tend not to do drabbles -- probably because I like being wordy!

I tried out another fic for my poor [community profile] mundane_bingo card (even though the comm seems inactive, I still like the prompts...). I realized if I edit & finalize various bits of the ficlets I've been drafting for the card, I'll have a bingo! (But who knows if/when I'll actually get the fics into a state where I feel okay sharing them...)

I like writing shorter pieces, cuz the one long-ish fic I've been working on feels v. difficult to me, ahahaha. Plus there's something so satisfying about snapping out a shortfic, focusing in on one moment or one thought. Every word counts so much more in a shortfic; there's less room for excess verbiage, etc. & yeah, I like the satisfaction of posting a fic, so shortfic being done quicker gives me more of that. ;) I think my brain tends to come up w/ideas more suited to shorter pieces anyway.

I wrote a bit - doing the 30 days of fiction meme so I'm actually trying to write every day. This makes a change from procrastinating, and procrastinating masquerading as research.

I prefer short pieces because I finish them. I struggle to keep myself on track to finish a chaptered fic. Average length of fic is one to five thousand words. But it depends on what I'm writing and why.

Took the day off to hang out with my critique partners. I got a bit done on my continued revisions on a short story. I worked a tiny bit on my July challenge fic.

I don't think it's that I prefer one over the other really, but I'm not a very good plotter so my stories just tend to be shorter. I have one major fic in each of my two more involved fandoms. I'm hoping to add a third longfic to my repertoire in my third new favorite fandom--just waiting for the inspiration and plot line to come to me.

Finished a fourth fill in my H/C bingo card. It seems I am slowly making my way to a blackout. On the one hand, yay writing! On the other, writing that fill ate up most of the time I had to work on either of the big bangs. /o\

I feel like I have nearlly equal amounts of short and longfics. It's not a matter of preferring one over the other, but of giving the stories as little or as much space as they need.
