Sooooo, I finally made a Pixiv account. (R-18, so it will look empty unless you're logged in.)

I wanted people to be able to easily find my dumb niche Sonic (Espio) porn
so I thought pixiv would be the best bet despite having to painstakingly censor everything I do, but after posting I found out you can’t view NSFW without an account anymore. AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

I hate current year. x.x There are no more good sites to post adult work to… maybe I’ll try to get a baraag account? Ehh, but how many people care about Sonic porn on the lolisho Twitter-like??? There aren’t many adult Sonic artists on bsky either, and I don’t really like the rules against noncon. Ughhh, and I desperately don’t want to make a Twitter account, I don’t care about “reach” I just want somewhere to post uncensored art so people can find it without me spamming DMs instead, sldgjhslgjLDJGHljhg… Inkbunny is also an option, though niche and you still gotta login to see it - Unsure how many Sonic artists are
there.

I’ll have to think about it. I’m only willing to keep up 2 art sites at a time, anything more than that is too much trouble. If only everyone just used Dreamwidth. u-u (Even though I’m uploading images off-site when I post here...)

Chapter 16: and if the real thing don't do the trick, you better make up something quick
AO3

Summary: Two weeks after his brother's second trial, Klavier Gavin is arrested for murder.

Fandom: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Characters: Klavier Gavin/Apollo Justice, Klavier Gavin/Daryan Crescend, Ema Skye, Miles Edgeworth
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Canon-typical violence, murder mystery, language
Notes: Chapter title is from Heart's "Barracuda".
Normally I try to keep these chapters to under 5k. Obviously, I did not succeed, but given that this is the final day, I'm going to justify the wordcount as an attempt to immerse all of you in the experience of playing an Ace Attorney extended cross-examination from hell.

Screaming about some of my favorite things reminded me: I have a whole selection of other stuff I should talk about!
Magical Girls

Specifically, I'm tackling magical girl stories that aren't super popular like Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura. Most of these are going to be comics or physical books, but there's a few TTRPGs to add as well!

Manga and Web Comics:

Phantom Thief Jeanne by Ariana Tanemura: A 90s manga blending the magical girls and phantom thieves with some Christian flavoring. Yeah, there are crosses and god, but you're not going to find any mention of Jesus, that's for sure. It's a darker magical girl story, more along the lines of the Sailor Moon manga.

New Magical Me by Prinnstar, Chuuney, and Greenie_Olivelie: Magical girls who defeat the big bad, grow up, and find themselves needing to come back together as working adults. Features a trans MC and very sweet friendships between the main characters. This is definitely a slow burn plot. If I were to compare it to a more popular series, I would say if Pretty Cure was targeted at adult women.

Books:

A Magical Girl Retires by Park Seolyeon: A Korean magical girl novella about a 29-year-old woman working dead-end jobs barely getting by who meets a gal dressed in really cute outfits and declares her destiny is to become a magical girl! Seolyeon does an amazing job bringing these characters to life, as wells as highlighting the struggle of being an adult stuck in dead-end jobs. There's such a quiet hope for a better world and better life in so few pages. It tops out at 154, so it's a fairly quick read.

MagnifiqueNoir
by Brianna Lawrence: A two book series (so far) that is a love letter to magical girls featuring Black women. Book 1 follows the main characters coming together and learning to work as a team, while giving us a good look into their personal struggles as well as their day-to-day life as college students. Book 2 dives into the history of their mentor, the source of their powers, and who is the mysterious Prism Pink. MagnifiqueNoir lovingly shows it's inspirations on it's sleeve, from anime to video games. Also, the insert images are fantastic!

TTRPGs:

Glitter Hearts by Greg L: A RPG system where you and a group can play your own magical girl stories a la Pretty Cure and Sailor Moon. It's for 3-6 players.

Thirsty Sword Lesbians: You get to play disaster lesbians with a heavy focus on emotions and building relationships. While it's not magical girls exactly, it still can be played that way and exudes the best qualities of the genre anyway (love, friendship, acceptance, etc). It runs on the Powered by the Apocalypse system, which tends to be a bit simpler than the usual d20 systems like Dungeons and Dragons. I haven't gotten a chance to play it since I only recently picked up a copy of it, but if nothing else, check it out for the sick art!

Hopesworn
: A solo RPG where you play as the last surviving magical girl of your team trying to protect what's left. It's a hack of Ironsworn, and still a bit unfinished as of now, but I genuinely like the concept of the game and hope it continues development.

I was so close to finishing work today with no leftover cases. Ended up having to leave twelve. At least it won't be too much trouble to get them done on Monday. I may even be able to get completely caught up through the day, since I'm not expecting much. Huzzah!

So, strong finish to the work week as hoped-- fingers crossed it carries me into a strong start to the weekend. Gonna do laundry and clean my bathroom first thing, then go on into the yarn stash organizing. The first two tasks shouldn't take me more than about twenty minutes-- not counting the time I'll have to wait for the laundry, natch-- and I'm planning to give myself thirty minutes to start with for the third. I'd like to be done by then but that is purely wishful thinking, lol. I'll instead just have a break at that point, probably to read. Might do a "thirty minutes on, thirty minutes off" thing until I'm done with the yarn. Once that's done... I dunno, actually. I guess I'll see how I'm feeling about everything then and choose what comes next accordingly. It'll either be crochet or collection sorting, I think, but maybe I'll want to write. We'll see!

I know I'm not the only one looking forward to accomplishing things this weekend. Let's all do our best!

Tuesday was my last day off from work. We decided to go to Hudson Gardens. We went there a bit earlier in the year, but knew there'd be different stuff blooming, and we hoped for frogs, haha. Success on both counts!

As always, too many pictures, so splitting it into two posts. This one will be for flowers (and insects), and the other one will be for various critters.

Adorable bee-fly!

Bumblebee, quite coordinated with its flower.

Ladybug!

Twenty more pictures of flowers and bugs:

Lovely water lilies.

More!

We were there a little after the peak for the roses, but some were still blooming:

Nice bright yellow.

The candy-stripe ones are always one of my favorites.

They're all so unique, even on the same bush.

More, with a bee butt!

I love this orange one.

The white ones look so soft.

A very flashy candy-stripe one.

Unfortunately a lot of the remaining roses looked like...

...this. The Japanese beetles unfortunately went to town on everything.

More bees!

Obligatory picture through the kaleidoscope.

Another picture of the bee-fly. They're so fluffy looking.

Honeybee!

The beehives.

More really vibrant water lilies.

A bee-mimic fly (not to be confused with the bee-fly, lol.)

More waterlilies.

A different ladybug, and a little mystery bug.

This waterlily was so perfect it looked fake.

It was a really nice day. We did our usual stop at the café for coffee and a snack, and otherwise just had a really nice day walking around.

Second post will be the various critters, which is always the part I'm excited for, haha.

I read a couple of articles recently, one about the recent Magic: The Gathering/Final Fantasy crossover and another a review of the most recent D&D book. The common thread in both of these articles was the way that the economics of being owned/produced by Hasbro (a multi-billion-dollar corporation) was affecting the content of the games. This got me to thinking that perhaps some games would be better off as lifestyle businesses. I don't think this is practical for all games — major corporate intellectual properties are more likely to deal with a major corporate game company than a lifestyle game company, regardless of the quality of the game — and I think at this point a lot of small game companies are just small companies that haven't scaled up ("yet," in the owners' hopeful thoughts) — but I'd like to deal with a game company that's run more for the good of the designers and the game than for the benefits of a huge faceless corporation.

ETA: It occurred to the just after posting this that a lot of the "companies" I dealt with when I was active in historical miniatures gaming were lifestyle businesses, simply because there's not really much room to scale historical miniatures. While this occasionally meant delays in orders because of issues in the owner's life (e.g. "I'm having my gallbladder out, so orders for the next couple of weeks will be delayed") or because of the realities of dealing with a small business (e.g. "I don't have any of Napoleonic Spanish irregulars on hand, so there will a slight delay while I cast some more"), it was generally a pleasant experience, even given the realities of transatlantic shipping in the late 1990s. It wouldn't really be compatible with today's "Amazon overnight delivery" mindset, though.

So, yesterday I started on Casey Johnstone's Couch to Barbell program, in the hopes that weightlifting would prove beneficial to my fibromyalgia and back pain.

It seemed like not very much exercise. 14 minutes worth with mandatory rest periods between each set. Stage One follow-along video

But today I am wiped out. Absolutely flattened. Admittedly I did go to belly dancing while my legs were still like jelly, but I don't think belly dancing is the culprit.

I'm telling myself that the fact that my legs are so sore must mean that it is in fact doing something, and I could definitely do with stronger legs, so onward! I'm on a mandatory rest day today, but she hardly needed to tell me, I'm not fit to do anything today even if I wanted to.

Yesterday I also made over a £10 second hand denim jacket on the model of some gorgeous £60 ones I saw at a festival. Shout out to my local haberdashery for carrying some interesting fabrics for £9 per half metre. I'm pleased with this:

Upcycled denim jacket

I could only do that because yesterday it was cool enough to go in the conservatory where the sewing machine is. Today is not, so I'm not sure what I can achieve today. Maybe some writing?

AAUA layout. The Main Library, which has grown over the millennia, with the most recent addition having been made 20 years earlier, is in the center of the campus. The various Departments are arranged around the Library like a fractal (but the core of the fractal resembles a Nordic protection rune, which matches to the Campus as it existed at the beginning of the Nordic Era, when the Vikings first started raiding Aurora). Dorms to the east have Nordic names. Freya's dorm is amongst those. Dorms to the west have Roman names. Olivia and Janara's dorm is amongst the latter. The campus is connected by elevated walkways. There are at least four stations of Urbs Aeterna's subway system within the campus. There are two airstrips serving the University just to the east and west of the dorms.

All I've been wanting this week is to come here and yap but life happened a lot this week! I'll be back later to catch up but I need to unload brain soup a little.

1. I went to get a bob-like haircut. It's the shortest it's been since college. heart kaomoji smiling with sparkles

💇🏻 haircut. we bob now. 💇🏻 )

2. I went with my MIL, who is a very cool fellow bi. She is in a happy WLW relationship and I love'em both. But she dropped some Lore (with a capital L) when she drove me back home. It's not my story to tell all haphazardly, but I'll just say it was full of heartbreak, queer yearning, US south-flavored religious trauma, internalized lesbophobia, sorrow, tragedy, and an untimely death. :(
But I've barely gotten to process all that because...

3. The next day, I had to scramble because I completely forgot my I had agreed with my friend to reschedule our body doubling meetings to Wednesday. She kindly waited for me on Discord, and we got to hanging.
I fear I've been yapping too much during what's supposed to be work time. :( I would like to be a bit more mindful of that.
Either way! I finished a Litleo for [personal profile] javert who was a darling and released some super cute Trubbish icons to the world.
I posted the art with bg color in my art journal, but~

🎨 here's the transparent PNG version! 🎨 )
Will I ever figure out how to properly make images responsive is the question... angry kaomoji with fire and steam

4. ANYWAY, THAT SAME DAY (at night)... after I was done with the drawing... I got a migraine!! :(
I started feeling funny but I thought a gummy was hitting me weird. Then I closed the office room and by the time I went to bed I had a ~gnarly~ headache on the right side of my head. I was also dizzy, sound-sensitive, light-sensitive, and all that jazz.
I only started getting migraines in adulthood. My mom has gotten pretty bad migraines occasionally, though I don't remember having any as a child. Mom says I need to talk to my doctor about it. Which, yes, I know I do. I just need the executive function to make an appointment with the doctor's office in the first place.
Either way, MIL is helping me with that so hopefully I get to go soon to address stuff. Maybe before the orange overlord's Medicaid Cuts kick my ass. :(

5. Same Body Double Friend and I videocall on Thursdays for Baldur's Gate. But we decided to turn this day into "movie time." We watched KPop Demon Hunters. I posted my thoughts about it on letterboxd but I'll add them here.

👹 Thoughts on KPop Demon Hunters 👹 )

6. Then I finished the day with a 4 hour phone talk with my mom. I hadn't talked to her in over 2 weeks, and she was too sick to answer my calls this past week so we had much to catch up on. I've missed her dearly so I'm glad we chatted. I'm happy that she's trying to take better care of her health. We both have the type of ADHD that we kind of leave things be for too long. Hearing her want to try to do better is motivating though. I was already trying to eat a bit better, so I'm more inspired to do so. We have to mind our sugar and kidneys.

Omg, I wanted to be done with this in 20 minutes but the yappin' just don't stopppp (and HTML learning curves... hmph mad kaomoji)

Okokok good night!! After I get some rest, I want catch up with Sunshine Revival and some very sweet comments I've been spotting from my e-mail! :^) I love it here in dreamwidth btw. People are so nice and attentive.

xoxo!

Challenge #5

Journaling prompt: Be a carnival barker for your favorite movie, book, or show (or any other of your choice - game, comic, anything else)! Write a post that showcases the best your chosen title has to offer and entices passersby to check it out.
Creative prompt: Write a fic or original story about a character reluctantly doing something they are hesitant about.

Have you all seen this year's Oscar-winning film for best animated feature Flow? Because you really should if you haven't.

The film won the Oscar for best animated feature, but it was also nominated for best international film (Latvia). It's an absolutely beautiful movie about a cat trying to survive alongside other animals in a post-apocalyptic world where the water level keeps rising, and finding unlikely friendships with the other animals in the process (found family!). The visual storytelling is excellent. There is no dialogue, just the animal sounds and music. The animals are not anthropomorphized; they act and react as the animals they are. The film really does a good job making each of the animals a character and highlights their emotions, yet their basic natures remain. There is suspense and sadness, but also humor (and even in a post-apocalyptic world a cat will still want to knock things off a shelf). And the resolution, though sad in some ways, is also really lovely and hopeful.

There is a ton of terrific gif sets, fan art, and meta for the film on Tumblr, but [tumblr.com profile] terapsina summed it up perfectly in this gif set.

I love this movie so much.
