To be honest, it's all rough and a mess. There is a method to the madness, but it's more madness than method. Some times there's descriptions between the dialogue, or it's purely dialogue. And somehow, I still remember which chucks go to which WIP that I wrote down and shelved for the time being. Basically, it was so I didn't forget about them years later, and I wanted to revisit it and one day complete.
Such as, in my purple composition notebook, I have paragraphs of dialogue for a Monk AU-ish fanfic where the characters are in the 1840's trying to the solve the mysterious death of Edgar Allan Poe. It's all jumbled to no particular chapter, and that was pretty much how I managed my ideas.
