WIP Challenge: March 13 check-in

I don't know how it is where you are, but here in the midwestern US we're having a lovely bit of spring weather. How are things going today?

Discussion:

Apologies if this has been asked recently. What made you start writing fanfic? How long have you been writing it for? What keeps you writing it?

I wrote and posted Chapter Three of "Sway" (Garak/Bashir, 1920s AU), with about 1400 words of that written today and the rest written yesterday.

And I've been writing fanfic for well over twenty years, so I can't remember what made me start. XD But I keep writing it because I love playing with the characters and I love getting feedback from my readers. Simple, no?

Yuujinchou Exchange Bonus Treat #2 (due Mar 24): 193 new words. I need to think of a better ending line, but otherwise this is ready to send off to beta (should take care of this tonight). Current word count: 1,791

Help_Japan (due 18 years ago - 750 word min): No new words. I promise to give this love after the Yuujinchou exchange stops eating my brain. O.o Current word count: 3,666

Two chapters still needing edits.

I actually answered a meme about this topic not long ago, so I'll just link you all there if you're interested in my fanfic history.

Wrote my arm (and back?) sore from writing in my notebook today. Did a tiny amount on my computer; basically expanded on some ideas. Finally submitted That One Piece to beta.

I think I started writing fanfic when I was around 14 or 15? I wrote furiously for a couple of years. Then came the time when I saw what I wrote and absolutely hated my own work. Cue years going by where I'd write, at most, twice a year. I'm trying to get back into it. Trying to shut out that part of my brain that tells me to stop writing -- because we don't need that part, do we. (How am I supposed to develop my skills if I don't write?)

My brain is broken, so I'm reduced to crack-fic. Hotch and Reid, smushed together (naked!) in a box by a gay unsub in Smallville, Kansas. Let the cracking commence!

I've been telling myself stories based on TV-shows and stuff forever, it seems. Still do, before I go to sleep. But started writing fanfic just after discovering this amazing concept back in 2000. I haven't really looked back since. :-D

I write fanfic for training. I write fanfic because it's fun. And I write because I can't stop. Fanfic is like this amazing playground with these really cool playmates who do what you tell them to (well, most of the time, anyway). It's my own personal holodeck, where I can create whatever I can think of, and invite other's in to experience this thing I created because I thought it was fun and might be cool.

No writing today, but I attacked my messy draft of "The Lohengrin Revolver" and tried to sort stray snippets into some kind of order. It was about time, I thought ._.

Wrote and posted another ~1400 word chapter of "Sway". For a day that started out so crappily and has featured a guest appearance by depression, that's actually not too bad. :)

Nearly 800 words on the big bang, which I am v pleased with. So very nearly finished the first draft now!

Another 1K on my teen mecha pilot AU fic.

I start writing fanfic because at that time my fandom was quiet and I needed to write stories I wanted to read for myself. Then I kept finding ideas of stories to write so I continued. Feedback and encouragement didn't hurt, either.

Added 200 words on my [community profile] god_tier fic. I think I may have an idea where I want to take the story, but still thinking about it.

I started writing fanfic in 2006, so around six years now. Pretty much got started after reading several great fics and I wanted to try writing one myself. I still continued writing fanfic as the plot bunnies won't leave me until I write them, lol.
