I don't know how it is where you are, but here in the midwestern US we're having a lovely bit of spring weather. How are things going today?

Apologies if this has been asked recently. What made you start writing fanfic? How long have you been writing it for? What keeps you writing it?

Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 15:48 (UTC)And I've been writing fanfic for well over twenty years, so I can't remember what made me start. XD But I keep writing it because I love playing with the characters and I love getting feedback from my readers. Simple, no?

Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 16:55 (UTC)Help_Japan (due 18 years ago - 750 word min): No new words. I promise to give this love after the Yuujinchou exchange stops eating my brain. O.o Current word count: 3,666
Two chapters still needing edits.
I actually answered a meme about this topic not long ago, so I'll just link you all there if you're interested in my fanfic history.

Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 18:34 (UTC)I think I started writing fanfic when I was around 14 or 15? I wrote furiously for a couple of years. Then came the time when I saw what I wrote and absolutely hated my own work. Cue years going by where I'd write, at most, twice a year. I'm trying to get back into it. Trying to shut out that part of my brain that tells me to stop writing -- because we don't need that part, do we. (How am I supposed to develop my skills if I don't write?)

Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 22:43 (UTC)I've been telling myself stories based on TV-shows and stuff forever, it seems. Still do, before I go to sleep. But started writing fanfic just after discovering this amazing concept back in 2000. I haven't really looked back since. :-D
I write fanfic for training. I write fanfic because it's fun. And I write because I can't stop. Fanfic is like this amazing playground with these really cool playmates who do what you tell them to (well, most of the time, anyway). It's my own personal holodeck, where I can create whatever I can think of, and invite other's in to experience this thing I created because I thought it was fun and might be cool.

Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 23:26 (UTC)Officially, I've only been writing fanfic since mid-to-late January of this year. But actually, the first story I ever wrote was RPF, in the 7th grade! I didn't know that's what I was doing of course, but that means I first wrote fanfic 29 years ago. ;)

Date: Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 03:24 (UTC)I start writing fanfic because at that time my fandom was quiet and I needed to write stories I wanted to read for myself. Then I kept finding ideas of stories to write so I continued. Feedback and encouragement didn't hurt, either.

Date: Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 06:56 (UTC)I started writing fanfic in 2006, so around six years now. Pretty much got started after reading several great fics and I wanted to try writing one myself. I still continued writing fanfic as the plot bunnies won't leave me until I write them, lol.
