April 22, Sunday Check In
Another day has come and gone, so now it's time to check in. \o/
How many new words did you write today? Did you reach your goal? Were you editing instead? Researching? Or was today a day of rest?
This week, I'll be sharing a writing exercise or warm up each day. Feel free to post your results here if you wish (or link us to them).
_________
Let's start the week with a warm up! Music has been brought up many times before in this group, so hopefully this warm up will be handy for many of you.
Set your mp3 player to shuffle (or whatever playlist device you have available). During each song, write a drabble inspired by that song. When the song is over, the drabble is done! Begin your next drabble with the next song, no pausing or stopping the player in between to edit (no repeat either!).
The idea is to let the words flow at a steady pace without your self-editing filter restraining you. You'll likely need to edit and add to whatever you've started later on, but after a few songs you should hopefully be in a good rhythm and be ready to word dump on your standing WIP!

As for this warm up, I do use it now and again with fairly good results. Here is a drabble-thing from the last time I tried it:
Rancid - The 11th Hour (Ouran Host Club) Kyouya and Tamaki
Tamaki really knew how to let lose, Kyouya mused. He sat back and sipped his drink as the tall blond circled the floor jauntily, a different girl off his arm at each pass.
"Kyouya-senpai, would you care to dance?"
"Certainly," he replied to the girl, glancing over to Tamaki once more as he stood, unfolding his long legs gracefully.
Tamaki caught his glance and smiled wide, waving goofily as he did.

BUT, one of my readers created a piece of fan art for the "Lethe's Curse" universe, and I'm absolutely tickled pink by it (WARNING for blood, but no real gore, especially considering that it was inspired by a scene where someone got decapitated).
I'll have to try that shuffle trick sometime -- perhaps later today, to clear my head after a solid day of working on the latest Project. :)

Maybe I'll try this writing warm up method with my new character once he gets his name!

But now, I'm off to at least get a start on the next chapter. Things are getting VERY interesting now. :)
