How particular are you about the way in which you write? Do you write in a special writing program like Scrivener, or do you rely on old standbys like Notepad? Do you have any particular writing rituals that you indulge in, like preparing a fresh pot of tea or making sure that you're listening to just the right mix of music? Can you write anywhere, or do you need to be in a specific space at the appointed hour? Tell us all about your writing rituals!

Mine vary madly. Sometimes music, sometimes not, sometimes music that's either instrumental or the vocals are in languages I don't speak. Tea's always nice, but it's not necessary, and I've written all sorts of places. Mostly, I need a computer with Word and I'm happy. Longhand is just too slow.

No writing today, alas :(

I can only ever write in my bedroom, in my happy place. No tea (though I love tea!), no music, no distractions, just me and Word :)

Music often inspires me but I can't write with it on - at least, not my music that I want to listen to. Someone else's music, or the tv, that I can filter out doesn't bother me.

I can't write longhand - I didn't start writing properly until I had access to keyboard and a word-processing programme.

I use Jarte, and I really like it; I think it helps me write better, because it's simple, but also has all the little formatting things I like to have available when I compose. It also works with my portable flash drive, so I can have my writing with me wherever I go. If I am somewhere where I don't have a computer, I scribble notes and snatches of writing in a wee notebook I care with me.

Rituals include coffee, tidying my desk/writing area, making sure my writing files are duplicated on my flash drive, turning on my writing music mix, and reviewing of my outlines. I can write anywhere if it's not too loud and I'm not interrupted; however, I can't write in a moving vehicle of any kind which is irritating, because that would be a great time saver! I think I tend to write better in the morning when I'm getting started on a project, but once I have some of it written, I can work on it at anytime of the day, as long as I'm not stressed out or over tired from the day's work.
