WIP check-in: Day 20

It's Tuesday still so many days left in the week, so lots of opportunities to get some writing done.

So did you ...

... write?
... edit?
... researched?
... procrastinated?
... did something else?

Discussion Topic:

Does it help you to have some visual fanart to go along with your story? If so, do you try and find some, have someone do them for you or do you make your own (photoshop, your amazing drawing skills etc.)?

I met my word count goal before leaving for work this morning! It was pretty awesome.

I like looking at fanart and pictures (my fic = Glee, so pics of the cast) to jog my mind. I also like looking at fanart when doing FF7 stuff, although it's been a while since I tried to write that.

I look at stuff that already exists, and then sometimes have it open with a split-screen (I write in Scrivener). More often, though, I look at stuff on Tumblr and save it and look at it later, but when actually writing, I just have the text on the actual screen.

I finished off a couple of short one-shots today, and I've spent a few hours making notes from DVDs for one of my main WIPs. As it's still early where I am I'm going to work on something else for a few hours.

For art it all depends on what I'm writing, I don't normally bother with art unless it's a big fic I do have art for my 3 big WIPs but I don't know if I'll be using them when I eventually get to the posting stage with them.

Still refreshing, still not done any actual writing. Sigh.

I don't really find it to help much. For a couple of thins I've hunted down a couple of pictures but they just sit there and I don't look at them.

I scribbled a few notes today in an attempt to nail down what I want to do for a Yule fic exchange. I have the main idea for the where part of the story, but I need a convincing why. ;-)

There are a couple of artists I like who do fanart that sometimes helps in visualizing a scene so that I can describe it with words. What helps even more than fanart, however, is actual pictures of places and scenery of the type that I am talking about in my story. I find it much easier to describe a place or a setting when I have a picture to refer to which helps me recreate the visual in the story. Much of my research is spent searching for just the right scene that matches what I see in my minds eye.

A few sentences here and there. Going to change up my strategy. Every time I try to work on a simple piece, my mind wanders to the high concept. It's distracting enough to make me cave and switch their priorities, heheh.

I do love having fanart inspiration. It doesn't need to be a literal scene in the fic. Mostly, I select something with the overall vibe I'm going for (cruel, bittersweet, adorable, etc.,). It helps get me in the mood when I need it, or functions as a general pick-me-up.
