Check in: Sunday 17th

Hey everyone, [personal profile] lilly_c with you this week :)

I know it's still early (in my time zone at least) but what have you been doing today?
I'm going to be editing for most of the day, and maybe doing some outlining for a different fic but only if I can be bothered to get the DVDs I need from the pile.

Discussion topic: summary. Do you find it easy or hard to write the summary for your fic? What makes it easy? What makes it hard?

I normally have no problems with writing the summary for my fics but I have been and still am struggling to summarise my Taggart case fic without giving anything away. Every time I think I’ve got it right I find that I’ve revealed a plot point, it is frustrating and I did have a bit of a moan to my f-list about it. Maybe I'll find a way to write the summary without giving away any of the plot while I'm editing.

It's quite early here, too, but I have a plan for the day. I have the whole day to myself with nothing planned -- which is a great recipe for writing! I'm planning to spend time editing one thing, researching another and then writing, in the hopes of getting a chapter finished on a WIP that has been too long neglected.

I don't find writing summaries hard, but they aren't easy either. It's important to keep the summary short and not give anything away, while also making it sound interesting enough that people will want to read it. I guess I haven't had much trouble coming up with summaries, though I do find that I have to sit and think about it a bit sometimes, so it's not automatic.

I have a hard time with summaries. I usually go with something brief and descriptive. It won't necessarily even be a complete sentence. I try to be sure to name the main character in the summary.
