WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 21 -- Thursday

Hello on Thursday!  Sorry for missing yesterday.  Between my recovering from a root canal at the dentist and some unexpected bad news, I didn't get around to posting.  However, today is a new day, the sun is shining, and there are lots of opportunities for good things to happen out there today.

So what kind of a writing day has it been for you so far today?

• I wrote
• I did some planning and/or research
• I edited
• I've sent my fic off to my beta
• I posted today!
• I'm taking a break
• I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

For Discussion:  My one successful writing attempt so far this week was actually a rewrite of an old thing that was okay but didn't really work in the original format.  Do you ever go back and reuse something you've written to make a new thing out of it?

As I mentioned in the above post, I haven't done anything but the rewrite of an old thing, originally a poem -- but I turned it into prose. It turned out to be very nice, and I'm getting some good comments on it, so I'm very pleased. But that was kind of the easy way out to take something already mostly written and just do a redo of it! Next thing is to actually write a new chapter on one of my neglected epics. ;-)

I wrote a little over a hundred words today, on a story I hadn't touched in a while. Better than I've done all week, really.

I poach my own writing constantly. Old stuff is like the sourdough sitting in the fridge, as that one Tumblr post says. I do it in fic and in original writing, and sometimes it means similar themes or metaphors crop up in a lot of places. I wonder if someday I'll have readers that can form a pattern out of the stuff I've written over the years, like I do with my favorite writers.

I took a break yesterday. I needed to because there's too much RL stuff worrying me at the moment. I spent the day in Glasgow and considered a few locations for where something (currently undecided) will happen to Robbie in the eventual sequel to Twice Unjust.

As I'm waiting for my asda delivery I'm going to get some editing done and hopefully have 2 chapters ready to post tomorrow.

I sometimes go back and use old ideas, sometimes I use prompts from challenges I didn't get to work with too.

I did some writing yesterday, not a lot but some.

I save things that I cut if they're large enough (more than a couple of paragraphs), but I've never used any of it for another project. I still might, however. You never know.
