Discussion: I'm not going to share this fic. Part of writing fan fic is about sharing our own perception of the world with others and making a connection but what about the fics that we write that won't be shared. Do you ever write a fic, only to never post it? Do you make it a friends locked post? Do you post everything you write?

I do sometimes write but not post, this is usually when it is something that I've written and I'm not at all confident about it. When I was active on LJ (a long time ago), I occasionally posted the fics that I wasn't certain about with the f-list and the feedback from them was encouraging but even with having that support in the past, I still hesitate over posting some of my fic from time to time. I tend to post most but not all of what I write.

I've tossed out several rough drafts because I couldn't continue where I wanted the story to go. I've even rewritten a story because I hated my first choice of narrative voice in it.

I have a whole folder full of stories I'll probably never post. A lot of what I write ends up being just plain bad.

There are pieces I'll write because I'm drawn to them, but there's aspects about it that I'm not skilled with. I'll never get better if I don't practice and write it. But if I'm not happy with the results (yet), I'm not going to post it. Might share it with a couple of RL friends who write, as they can help me improve.

I post most of what I write. There are a few pieces that I basically wrote for myself that are good enough to post but I don't want to share them widely. I've sent them off to a few select people to read and left it at that. I have some stories outlined in fandoms that are new to me, which I may be reluctant to post if I ever write them, because I'm not confident in those fandoms.
