Do you ever write crossovers? Why or why not?

I've written crossovers mostly when prompted to. I like the challenge of reconciling the details of different canons, of seeing which bits fit into which corners. A long time ago, there was a community on LJ that took character suggestions from different fandoms and then randomly paired those characters and challenged members to write fics that had those two characters interacting. I never wrote anything for it, but I loved trying to come up with plausible ways to fit characters together.
