Do you ever write crossovers? Why or why not?

I've written crossovers mostly when prompted to. I like the challenge of reconciling the details of different canons, of seeing which bits fit into which corners. A long time ago, there was a community on LJ that took character suggestions from different fandoms and then randomly paired those characters and challenged members to write fics that had those two characters interacting. I never wrote anything for it, but I loved trying to come up with plausible ways to fit characters together.

I'm dealing with life these days, which is very complicated. Hope to get some writing done this weekend, perhaps.

I have not ever written a crossover, but I am intrigued by them. I toyed with doing one once, but couldn't get the details to mesh. I am keen on things being plausible, so if I could figure out a way to combine two different fandoms in plausible fashion, I would probably go for it!

I love writing crossovers, but I rarely do them. The effort of making two (or, often more) different canons fit together is often not worth the (typically) tepid response. In fact, that seems to be a general rule of fanfic: The more ambitious the effort, the fewer the people who will read and appreciate it.
