May sign ups

I would have had this up much sooner but I kept forgetting. Oops. :)

It's time to sign up for the May WIP challenge!

Some people join the challenge midmonth, or comment on check-in posts without signing up, which is fine -- I'm glad there's a way for the challenge to be useful in a variety of ways.

But for those of you who find the commitment of signing up useful, please leave a comment with the below information.

Signups will be open until the end of April.

  • Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
  • Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
  • What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
  • What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
  • How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
  • Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

I couldn't continue to run this challenge without assistance with the daily check-in posts. Many thanks to everyone who's helped with the check-ins before!

Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping out. A week per person would be ideal (I usually assign weeks running Sunday-Saturday just for consistency). I'm happy to help come up with suggestions for discussion topics (& Friday or Saturday is usually the general chat/snippet/beta-seeking etc. post).

(& if you've completed a fic through the challenge, don't forget our collection on AO3! If you need AO3 invites, let me know.)

I'm willing to do a week of check ins. I think all weeks are about equally good/bad. I have a lot of morning appointments in May, so there are likely to be some posts that go up later than I'd usually post.

Level of challenge: A chapter or two (dare I dream of three?)

Fandom(s) involved: Harry Potter

What you're looking for from the challenge: Regular reminders to write

What you could offer other participants yourself: I'm happy to first read, even if I don't know the fandom.

How people should contact you: PM works fine.

Time zone: Eastern Daylight Savings

Are you sure you're looking at May? My calendar shows the 12th as a Tuesday. I've double and triple checked that I'm looking at May.

Okay. I'll put that into my iCal. On the 12th, I have a morning doctor's appointment, so the post may not go up until my afternoon. I should be home the rest of the mornings (I usually put up the post between 10 a.m. and noon, my time).

Level of challenge: Write something. Anything. Literally anything. I'm shifting my fandom commitments, but I'm still writing.

Fandom(s) involved: Many and varied.

What you're looking for from the challenge: Reminders to stay motivated.

What you could offer other participants yourself: As always, I'm available for beta detail.

How people should contact you: DW PM.

Time zone: EDT.

I'm not doing well at achieving my stated goals, but they are still worth striving for, so I'm going to try again in May to accomplish something.

Level of challenge: Chip away at writing the prompts I signed up for in March and April, plus add a new chapter to any one of my multi-chapter WIPs. Since baseball season began in April, I may concentrate on finishing my baseball-related WIP!

Fandom(s) involved: Major (Anime/Manga), Lord of the Rings

What you're looking for from the challenge: Encouragement to keep trying, accountability

What you could offer other participants yourself: The same, plus encouragement via a week of check-in posts.

How people should contact you: DW PM

Time zone: Central Daylight, USA

I'll help with a week of check-in posts -- I'm traveling with limited internet the first part of May, so if either May 24-30 or May 31-June 6 (if that still counts as part of the May challenge) is available, I'd like one of those, please!

Looking more closely at my calendar, I think the week of May 24-30 will work better for me, so put me down for that one. Thanks!

Level of challenge: At least one chapter of a not-yet-started fic. BONUS ROUND: A kinkmeme fill, and maybe some drabbles/ficlets for a pairing that I like a lot but haven't yet written about.

Fandom(s) involved: Blazblue, Persona

What you're looking for from the challenge: Daily accountability; a reminder that even a few words written is better than no words. ^^

What you could offer other participants yourself: If you're in need of encouragement, I'd be happy to read your work and give you positive feedback--I'm not particularly good at catching spelling/grammatical errors, but if I do notice a mistake, I'll mention it. :)
