WIP Challenge (very belated) checkin, Day 17, Thursday

Have you written today?
Let's discuss late starts and re-starts. Have you ever come back to a fic after a long break? What it was like getting to know it again?

I haven't written today yet but I just woke up and clenaed the kitchen so accomplishments. :D

I plan on eating some food and writing for about an hour or so.

I did go back to a fic that I had abandoned back in April. I finished it around the end of last month and while I didn't feel like it was my best writing ever or anything, I found when I just let the story go where it wanted to go it definitely flowed better. I think maybe I just wasn't in the right mindset at the time.

I have not written today, at least nothing related to my WIP! Said WIP is one that I have left for long periods of time and continually come back to, and it is always a bit awkward trying to remember what was important and where I was going, and why. But if I can spend enough time around it to get reacquainted then we are friends again, and I can keep going on it!

I haven't written yet today, though my writing yesterday went slightly smoother than much of the rest of the month.

When it comes to returning to old works, I feel like it's a bit of a mixed track record for me. Sometimes I've been able to jump back in on something I'd started and never completed. In those cases, it's often a matter of rereading anything I had written, and getting to know the setting and the characters again, to remember what was exciting or where I was excited to go with it.
Recently I tried to return to a fic that has been in various stages of in-progress for almost a decade, but that I hadn't worked on for a couple years. Unfortunately, I decided that one probably needs to be given up on, at least for now. It sort of felt like a "we've just grown apart" situation, like I couldn't quite get to know it again. Very bittersweet!
