Keeping up with chores

It's time for another episode of America's favorite game show: Rotate! That! Mattress!

Edit: And returning contestant Socchan has done it again! The mattress has been rotated 180°, and the sheets changed at the same time. This time around, Socchan notably chose not to move the dresser at the foot of the bed, seeming to save some extra seconds in the final time and some overall effort. Will Socchan continue this gamble in upcoming appearances? Only time will tell!

Today, as in every episode, Socchan walks away with a mattress that has been slightly rejuvenated and whose lifespan has been extended just a bit longer, as well as the feeling of sleeping on fresh sheets to look forward to.

Join us again in two months for another episode of Rotate That Mattress!

Link spam: Enjoying problematic works/authors

Starting to process my backlog of links. Originally, I started collecting this particular list when the allegations about Neil Gaiman surfaced last year (if you've been lucky enough to miss that, but want to learn more, [personal profile] muccamukk's round-up post is still an excellent overview).

It's always hard when stories, songs, shows, etc that made a difference to you turn out to be created by someone who's done or is doing horrible things. I always find it hard when it's followed by a demand to just stop liking whatever it was, as if that's as easy as snapping your fingers to remove the impact of sometimes formative stories from one's life.

Here are a few links that helped me navigate this, whenever it happens, since it happens often. If you only have energy for one link, I'd recommend making that the first one. It's nuanced and practical.

Dealing with Authors Who are Jerks, Bastards, or Downright Evil in Real Life by [blogspot.com profile] writinginthedarktw. "But how should we react when a writer we admire, or who we have a personal relationship with, turns out to be a not-so-good person? The short answer, of course, is you can react any damn way you wish. There’s no right way. But I can share with you how I attempt to navigate these rough waters."

I'm so glad to see the end of this week. It felt like it would never come!

Forecast for tomorrow, last I looked, is optimistic. The rain has been pushed back and so I think I can get to the farmer's market and pick up what I'm after without any problems. Then I can come home and get right to the chores and reorganizing I was planning. Gonna go back to the fifteen minute method, working clockwise, since that went well the last time I deep-cleaned my room. Some things are going to have to be left at "good enough" since I need to reconsider my storage system but that's fine. I think I'll do that for a set number of hours-- haven't decided them-- and then call it a day. Anything that still needs done, I'll get to on Sunday. I want to have some reading/hobby time too, after all.

Re-reading my own fic to get myself in a good writing headspace, and you know, Sonata may have taken more time/effort/plotting and gets more attention for good reasons, but until I bring you home absolutely slaps. I wrote it in something like six days on an average of five hours of sleep a night, and it still might be the best emotional arc I've ever written.

[FFXIV] Making Sense of Loose Change: End

Characters: OCs
Rating: Teen
Summary: As an echo user, you get a firsthand glimpse of what memories may be attached to this trunk of items you've found at a secondhand store. Who did these belong to, and what glimpses into the lives of their previous owners might they contain?

Final Chapter: Siza'li

The next item in your trunk of wonders is a broken, rose gold earring. It would pass for an earring that those of Ul’dahn descent would wear, though it appears to be missing its jewel in the center of the overall intricate design. Probably why it was discarded to begin with, you surmised, though you wouldn’t have to wait long to see what attachment still had its hold on it.

[FFXIV] Making Sense of Loose Change: Part 1

Characters: OCs
Rating: Teen
Summary: As an echo user, you get a firsthand glimpse of what memories may be attached to this trunk of items you've found at a secondhand store. Who did these belong to, and what glimpses into the lives of their previous owners might they contain?

Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 11/11/22 and now being archived here! Original notes: My brain said I should make an "x reader" series for all of my FFXIV OCs, so this is the first of those. I plan for these to be short and sweet, so apologies in advance for the length. I preface this by saying that this is written out of pure self-indulgence and isn't mean to be a one to one match for your own personality/actions/demeanor etc. Simply put, if "x reader/ Y/N" content isn't your cup of tea for whatever reason, feel free to pass on by!

Chapter 1: Jihe'to

The first item in the trunk of wonders you’ve found is a sunflower brooch. It’s small and missing a few of its petals, but you can’t help but smile at how cute it is. With no time to further speculate on its potential owner, the echo immediately propels you into your first memory.

Your vision opens to the view of a serene sunset overlooking a grassy field. Thanks to the power of the echo, you seem to be looking through the eyes of the vision’s owner, awakening with a small yawn.

Friday Five

My responses to the [community profile] thefridayfive for 6/6/2025.

1. Have you ever been to summer camp?
No.

2. Have you ever made a s'more?
Yes. My family used to have bonfires in one of the outer fields every autumn and we'd roast marshmallows and make s'mores.

3. Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)?
No. I'm very much not an outdoorsy person.

4. Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house?
Yes

5. What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.)?
Twin

Jazzy update

So we went to the vet on Wednesday to discuss Jasper's whole health with our primary vet. We trust him a lot because he's been our vet for 13 plus years now.

Our vet said that with Jasper's kidney disease (early stage 1) he wouldn't recommend going to an oncologist for treatments as both radiation and chemo may put to much strain on our boys kidneys.

He sent an email to our optometrist who did Jasper's surgery about the risks of going in again to try and remove the additional melanoma cells. And got back to us that day recommending the surgery to hopefully be able to remove the additional melanoma.

Apparently diffuse iris melanoma doesn't grow back often and it's risk of moving elsewhere is also low.

So next Thursday, Jasper goes back in for surgery.

Hopefully they can save him.

I want to have hope. I'm never ready to say goodbye to my cats. And I want Jasper to live as long as he can. To beat kidney disease and Cancer for as long as possible.

At the vet's office I also got to meet a five week old kitten, that our vet rescued! Omg she was the tiniest little thing.

Jasper than bit me in jealousy! I have my hands full with Jasper, Boo, Bitsy and Nori though!

Fannish 50 S3 Post 30: Jin as the Ultimate King of CHAOS

NGL, these are two episodes I've watched several times. Not only cuz they give me so much joy and LOLs, but also because Jin is at his "worst" in terms of scheming, competitiveness, and charm. Finally, and most importantly, both episodes feature Jin happily getting manhandled by men. This is legit one of the things that clearly bring him joy. IJS.

Can Jin Keep His Cool?

As far as his public persona, Jin is mostly known for not losing his temper unless it's an extreme situation. He WILL be loud and in-your-face in smaller outbursts, but those moments are presented in a comedic light. With him sorta stepping into a kinda funny brat?

Anyways, this episode dares Jin to keep his heartbeat at a steady rate no matter what. Every challenge gets wilder and wilder. And Mimiminu, a YouTuber, is there to play the devilish MC who try to push Jin's buttons as hard as he can.

I've actual!cried from laughing so hard every time I've sat down to watch this episode.

Will Park Hyungsik Fall For Jin>

NGL, this episode had me SCREECHING from the second I watched the teaser. For starters, Park Hyungsik is part of Taehyung's Inner Circle (generally known as the Wooga Squad.) AND, after watching In the SOOP: Friendication, I realized that Hyungsik tend to be game with any wild scheme. The other thing that had me full 😵 is that there hasn't been a ton of on-camera or off-camera interactions between the Wooga Squad members (which include Park Seojoon, Choi Wooshik, and Peakboy) and the rest of the BTS members. So this was, in many ways, a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to see how they'd interact.

It takes a little bit, but soon enough Hyungsik is embracing Jin's rebellious spirit. If there's one thing I love watching in variety shows is when ppl go WILD. And this episode DELIVERS.
