How do you pace yourself when you're writing a fic with a deadline (whether a self-imposed one or an external one, like for an exchange)? Do you plod steadily through, or do you find it hard to get started & then race through everything at the end? What works for you?

I wrote 4000 words today, which means that I'm ahead of my schedule.

Facing a deadline, I just sit down and focus and write. Usually I'll get to write something.

I added 360 words to my big bang yesterday and finished that section off. I'm more than happy with the days word count as work was mobbed and I was knackered afterwards. For the rest of the weekend I plan to write a little this morning, then we're having my brother's 21st birthday tea so I'll be taking the rest of the day off.

I usually find it hard to get started and leave everything to the last minute. I think that for especially the last wee while this has meant some of my stuff hasn't been quite up to standard, especially for silly wee mistakes. I have made some progress on this over the last wee while though and I am writing a bit more steadily than I was.

I tend to plod along. There's a lot of time spent playing solitaire and otherwise procrastinating. I try to start challenge stories within a day or two of getting the prompt/assignment/whatever, and I usually finish close to the deadline, no matter how long or short the story is or how long the writing period is. That's why I avoid overlapping challenges.
