How do you pace yourself when you're writing a fic with a deadline (whether a self-imposed one or an external one, like for an exchange)? Do you plod steadily through, or do you find it hard to get started & then race through everything at the end? What works for you?

I tend to plod along. There's a lot of time spent playing solitaire and otherwise procrastinating. I try to start challenge stories within a day or two of getting the prompt/assignment/whatever, and I usually finish close to the deadline, no matter how long or short the story is or how long the writing period is. That's why I avoid overlapping challenges.
