Today's discussion question: Do you like to talk about your story ideas before you write them or while you're working on them? Or does doing that kill the story?

I tend to like to talk. It helps me shape the story in my head and can let me know when I'm going off track entirely.

Depends on the nature of the story and the stage I'm at. I have certain local friends who I'll share this with. Some give me very detailed feedback in-process, and will help me "choreograph" scenes. Of course major plot twists don't get discussed. And spoilers for fandoms don't get discussed with friends in those fandoms. Happily, my friends aren't all in the same fandoms!

I'll save the poll for later in case I actually write something today! So far, it's just resting happening around here.

I talk about story ideas with my son if I'm not certain about whether my idea is quite on target or not. We are on the same wavelength so he either encourages me or helps me come up with a better idea.

Today was really crap but I wrote although I'm not sure I'll be using what I have because it doesn't feel useable to me. I'll likely look it over in a day or so and make a decision on it then.

I don't talk about my writing with my friends in RL but I used to do that quite a lot with my flist when I was active on LJ because it was good to have other perspectives on thigns and also bounce ideas too. I do actually miss it even though I rarely post anything writing related, maybe I'll start doing that again at some point.
