And the number on the card is ... 2. So! What have you been doing?
— Thinking. Maybe a little, maybe a lot.
— Writing.
— Outlining, planning, and / or prewriting.
— Researching and / or revisiting canon.
— Editing.
— Sending things to the beta.
— Posting!
— Relaxing, taking a break, etc.
— Other stuff-ing. Look at the comments.
Question: What is your favorite type of writing challenge? Drabbles? Exchanges? Bingo cards? Anonymous kink memes? Something else? Or do you prefer to write without challenges?

I like challenges that have to include a word or phrase, as well as fixed-length fics like drabbles. I did bingo cards for the first time this year, and liked them! I was part of a community that had a monthly challenge, and I got a lot of writing done that way, but that community petered out, so now I'm just trying to write without challenges for the most part.

Which segues into the answer to your question - definitely exchanges. I'm greedy and I want fic written just for me, lol. And I want comments on the fics I write! Exchanges combine both into one satisfying package, complete with deadlines so I can't dawdle and put it off forever. And the prompts, while sometimes frustrating or unhelpful, can be just what I needed to do an amazing job when I otherwise wouldn't have thought to even write that. I'd wallow too much in idfic or start WIPs I couldn't finish - or write nothing at all - if I didn't have exchanges to get the words flowing. The only trouble with right now is real life has sort of gotten insanely busy as well which means I haven't had the time to work on the non-exchange fics that I want to, but eh, such is life! Now that I've gotten all my exchange fics done, I can relax for a bit - and if I have time, work on the non-exchange ones.

Anonymous kink memes. Apart from the seemingly ever-shrinking number of responses they seem to get, which is part of the reason I always try to fill as many requests as I can instead of just one.
