[personal profile] jagnikjen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Hello All--we're on the downhill slide toward the weekend. YAY! Some of you are closer than others.

Also, I'd like to say you've been a chatty group lately and it's good to see so many interchanges between members.

Now, how goes the writing?

~ Fantastic
~ Good
~ So so
~ Slow
~ Awful

Share your word counts, your postings, or if your having issues. We're here to congratulate or commiserate.

Discussion topic . . . so my question today is, how far and wide are we spread? In other words, where do you live? Be as specific or as general as you feel comfortable. (I'm in Fort Worth, Texas, USA)

About 800 words of super-super-rough draft for my Natsume exchange fic. :D Still figuring out how I want to handle it, which means I will no doubt keep rewriting the same scenes for about 3 more days, heh. Hoping to get a few short WIPs finished up before I dive wholeheartedly into it.

My heart is always back in NYC, but currently I am in London (which I do like!).

Wrote ~1900 words today of plotting on "Solstice and Equinox" (discovering, in the process, that there's a second story track happening: the Station Soap Opera, which consists of the rumours swirling around the main characters as a result of Deep Space Nine's gossip mill). What I've also discovered is that I need to tie down the canon timeline a lot more firmly, because when the Dominion declares war on the Alpha Quadrant and Cardassia enters the fray will be very important to the fic's own storyline.

And I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada -- pretty much in the geographic centre of North America.

Polished up a 450+-word ficlet for [community profile] fic_promptly (Soul Eater, Death the Kid); also despairing that I haven't written anything for my own fest for easily-lost characters yet. (It's a party! Come play!)

I live in a small town just outside of Omaha, Nebraska in the US.

Work-writing is going great, fanfic not so much this week. I'm still struggling to get into the groove of writing again in general and my anxiety monkeys are worse about fanfic, because I cannot do anything the proper way.

I live in Canada, outside Toronto, Ontario. :)

I took last night off for napping and general recuperation from a crazy week. My brain is casting about for something to work on next, definitely related to my last fic. I have a series envisioned in my head. First up might be a short bit between Donna and the Doctor, where she gives him a piece of her mind. I suspect I may be speaking for part of the fandom with this one. ;)

Also trying to figure out where to go with the plot twist I threw into the end. I set myself up for some fun stuff, but I'm not sure the best way to take advantage of it yet.

I'm in southeastern Michigan, about an hour west of Detroit.

That's really interesting. Why do you think the anxiety is worse about fanfic? For me, it's much much less. I stopped writing original fiction in part because I was stressed about not being "professional" enough and because the general lack of feedback was depressing. Anxiety levels are much lower for me for fanfic--not because my standards are lower or anything, but because I'm not putting so much importance on it (i.e., I'm not planning to make a living off it. :) ).

And I just posted a ~725 word conversation between Garak and Bashir from "S&E". Some nice (IMO) back-and-forth banter between them as they negotiate the new shape of their relationship.

Augh, awful so far. I'm not feeling inspired at all, but I will drag out at least a few sentences by today if it kills me. *determined look*

I'm originally from Germany, but right now I'm studying in Durham, England.

Due to an unplanned three-day break from writing, I can't finish my story for [community profile] fan_flashworks on time without stressing out. So I'm skipping that detour to focus on my main fic again. Wrote a few hundred words of that and did a little research and plotting. I think I'm almost done choosing names for the characters introduced in chapter one :D

The other fic wasn't a total loss, though: I got some practice writing on a deadline, and I think I refined my process a bit. And I can still use all the work I did, at some point when I have more time.

Got a little bit written, but it's slow going. Think maybe I need to take a day or two and do some more detailed plotting.

I live in Denmark. Tiny country, geographically, but mentally we still own parts of England, Norway and a good chunk of Sweden... ;-)

Writing today was...okay. I'm working on a fest piece in the HP fandom that prominently features Luna, and there are some days when I really get her voice and then there are others when I don't. I guess I just need to read more Luna!fic and it'll feel less foreign to me.

I live in Boone, NC, USA. I'm comfortable sharing this because my town houses natives and close to 20k college students, which makes me just a drop in the bucket.

I'm... behind on everything (and not great about checking in)! But writing has been going... pretty well, if slowly. I'm about 2,500 words into this rough draft, making it the longest thing I've written in a while.

And I'm from eastern PA, USA -- about two hours north of Philadelphia (or about two hours west of NYC).

Haven't gotten much progress on my WIP; writing has been like pulling teeth, but I managed to sketch out an outline I'm sort of happy with. I think I'm going to take a breather and work on my big bang instead, which I need to start anyway.

I'm in New York, which is just as awful and great as you can imagine.

I think it's because I have confidence in my own worlds. As long as I'm consistent, who's going to say I'm wrong? But fanfic—everyone has their idea of right and wrong, a lot of people I know write in some of my fandoms I would be writing in if I could just get over myself, and I get all wound up and can't deal.

Word count is only about 400 for the day, but that was surprisingly easy and I'm feeling good about it (apart from the part of my brain that is going 'wah' about the self imposed deadlines).

I'm pretty much slap bang in the middle of central Scotland.

Today's progress...

Yuujinchou Exchange (due Mar 17 - 1K word min): 335 new words. Current word count: 2,293

Help_Japan (due 18 years ago - 750 word min): No new words. Current word count: 3,666

Today's progress isn't what I'd like it to be, but I daresay it's for a good reason! We unexpectedly ended up with a permanent foster kitten! This is sort of hysterical because JUST YESTERDAY I was discussing how I wasn't ready to adopt another cat ... but I couldn't say no to this baby.

An acquaintance runs a rescue group in our area, and I occasionally foster for her when she needs me to. She called me today and gave me this story: last August someone found 3 kittens in the basement of an apartment building (then roughly 8 weeks old), and they had had very bad things done to them. The rescue took them and cleaned them up/let them heal. This poor baby had to have a good chunk of her tail amputated. ;;_;; So anyway, once they were healed and well they began to adopt them out. This female started having seizures and a whole other slew of issues. Several rounds of tests and scans later, they discovered she has multiple liver shunts and was deemed inoperable.

So now she will live with us for however long she lives. I'm hoping we can get her meds and diet sorted well enough that it won't be a big issue (my toy poodle also has liver shunts, which is why I think they thought of me). Now I need to come up with a name!
