How often do you start out wanting to write one thing and end up with something entirely different when you've finished? Do you post it? Does it stay on your hard drive?

Not very often, actually. Usually I have at least a ballpark idea of where I want a fic to go, and my stories generally behave themselves. Occasionally, though, I sit down and just start typing based on a rudimentary idea and am pleasantly surprised with the results.

As for posting... hell, I'll post just about anything. :)

In other (really good) news, my dry spell seems to have broken: I was able to write a 421-word Garak/Bashir story based on a "Regency AU' prompt that turned into a cross-dressing fic, wahoo! :D

Oy, what a weekend. Yesterday was not so good writing wise, but today i had my feet back under me, so yay!

I'm pretty good now about staying on target with big stuff. I mean, ideas can shift a little bit here and there-that's part of the process, but for the most part, I'm pretty consistent. I think it's partly because I do more planning ahead of time than I used to.

"Pieces" - 144 words comparing a dude to a gorilla. I'd hoped to get more done today, but I took a while getting started ^^;

325 words on a kink bingo fill. The draft is finished and tomorrow should see it edited and posted. Really pleased with it actually!

I tend to stay mostly on track with what I had planned; I tend to switch WIP's if I'm not up for writing what I had planned.

Two of my favourite fics started out as something completely different and ended up as the basis for ongoing fic-series that were quite different from their origins. One began as a simple 100-word drabble that spun out of control, and the other was a kink-meme fill that originally was supposed to be a purely comedic idea but turned into something particularly bittersweet. So I rather enjoy it when fics take an unexpected turn -- they usually end up better than my first idea.

Running late, but this totally happened to me with this big fic I'm doing now. I'd intended to do queer romance, as it's my genre, for the DragonAge fandom, and then I ended up doing het. Which I don't write. Except now, apparently. I've been writing fanfic for three decades or so and this is one of the VERY RARE het fics I've done... and yet, not at all unusual for the fact that it's incestuous (consenting adults, o/c). My brain. Let me show you where it's broken.
