Bit early today, because my RL is going to be hectic.
How's the fic coming along?
Discussion: For something a wee bit different. Let's have a fandom squee fest. Obviously we usually talk about writing, but what about out fandoms. What fandoms are you in? How did you get hooked? Which ones do you constantly go back to?

Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 13:28 (UTC)My main and long-time fandom is Lord of the Rings. I've been a consistent and insatiable reader of all things Tolkien for some 40 years, and a writer in the fandom for 10 years (as a result of the films coming out back in 2001). I am also an avid fan of Star Trek (I'm a DS-9er above all the other Star Trek series) and Sherlock Holmes (though I'm a bit behind when it comes to the newer versions of Holmes and Watson!), but I haven't really gotten into writing in those fandoms. (I thought about doing Star Trek, but never actually attempted it.)
I also do some squeeing in some anime fandoms, but so far the only one that has made me want to write about it is Major. I'm not entirely sure what captivated me in the first place (except I'm very fond of the voice actors who are featured), but I'm totally hooked now. As a result, I enjoy real life baseball more than I did before. My Major WIP is really quite close to being finished, but it's currently stalled -- mostly because I keep working on other things instead of finishing it!

Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 16:30 (UTC)As for fandoms, I've been chilling in the Percy Jackson and The Olympians fandom for two years now, and the Resident Evil fandom for more than ten years, and recently just about to join the Revenge Fandom. I've been planning to join some other fandoms, but for now, I'm sticking in these place.
I also hang out in a couple of anime fandoms, such as Fairy Tail, Prince of Tennis, Gurren Lagann, and Tsubasa. I keep going back to the Tsubasa fandom, even though I've left it long ago, but it's still homey for me.

Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 19:39 (UTC)I'm currently in two fandoms: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and ReBoot. I was in ReBoot fandom quite deeply up until about a year and a half ago, when I got driven out by the seriously snide attitude I ran into vis a vis slashfic (which is what I write); there's only so much "you write icky guy-smut and we don't need your kind around" that any author can take, I suspect, and so I abandoned a very rewarding pairing (Megabyte/Bob) and jumped ship to DS9 fandom, where I encountered exactly the opposite response. Not only did people love Garak/Bashir slashfic like crazy, but they loved my G/B slashfic like crazy woah, and I soon found myself with a following of appreciative and articulate fans who were devastatingly intelligent besides.
Consequently I've turned out almost ninety fics in that fandom (some of them quite long) in that year and a half, until Megabyte/Bob grabbed me by the throat again and is forcing me to write them... and thus I find myself trying to timeshare between the two fandoms. It's hectic and confusing, but in the best possible way. :)
As for how I got into those fandoms... I was a ReBoot fan when it first came out back in the '90s, and I became a Garak/Bashir fan due to a video posted on my LJ friends list that made me go "Wow, those two have chemistry, baby!"
Another fandom I keep going back to is A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. I wrote a Professor Hobby/Gigolo Joe slashfic just to prove that it could be done, and that pairing just won't leave me alone now...

Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 23:11 (UTC)The four fandoms I'm active are Pokemon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Homestuck, and Avatar: Last Airbender/Legend of Korra. Pokemon I haven't written anything for but I would like to one day while FMA and Homestuck had been writing quite a bit of fics of lately.
