Discussion question: Do you feel that writing fan fiction is an illegal act of copying someone's else's characters or world? (Even though we're all doing it.)

How do you feel when big name authors or 'creators' bad mouth fan fic in general or ban fan fiction based on their creations?

Do you respect the creator's right to establish parameters? (For example, J.K. Rowling who, generally speaking, thinks fan fiction is flattering, but would rather people didn't write sexually explicit scenarios for her characters.)

Kaleidoscope fanwork exchange

Just thought I'd drop a note about a v. promising new fanworks exchange. I know we've had some discussion in here about whether challenges/exchanges make you freeze up w/writer's block or help you push forward & come up w/things you might not have otherwise -- so possibly of interest to some!

Nominations are open for dark_agenda's Kaleidoscope fanwork exchange, "a multimedia fanwork exchange for rare chromatic source fandoms."

Kaleidoscope is open to all sources with chromatic characters or people and by chromatic creators, from animations to books & literature to folklore & mythology to movies to music to real people to sequential art to theater to TV shows to video games and including anime/manga/manhua/manhwa, Bollywood, C-Pop/K-Pop/J-Pop, fantaserye/telefantasya, komiks, lakorns, Nollywood, telenovela, tokusatsu and wuxia to name a few commonly known and region-specific genre terms. We welcome artworks, graphics, stories, vids and potentially other types of fanworks in English, in non-English languages or in both, particularly in English dialects and non-English languages associated with chromatic cultures.

I'm excited at the thought of seeing fanworks (including fic, natch) for some of my favorite small fandoms! My only problem is narrowing down my nominations to only 3 fandoms. ^^;;
