Hi. I'm The RCK, and I'll be doing the check in posts this week. So far this month, I've done no writing. I've just been thinking about the story I need to write. This week, I must get my act together and write as I have another project that I'll need to start working on soon. This one needs to be done quickly.
Today's discussion question-- When you write fanfic, do you try to preserve the tone and style of the canon as you write? Why or why not?
For me, this depends on the fandom. I'm more likely to try to keep the tone and style of the canon when writing for small fandoms than I am when writing larger ones. I think that, for smaller fandoms, I'm trying to give more of what was great about canon. With larger fandoms, I tend to feel that other authors have already explored the territory closest to canon. The space for stories there is further afield.
