[WRITE FIRST HALF OF FIC IN PAST TENSE (Fanfic Flamingo) NEXT SCENE SOUNDS BETTER IN PRESENT]

Do you find yourself switching between tenses when you write, and do you struggle which which one sounds best sometimes?

My biggest problem with tense is when I read other stories in the present tense and then try to write in the past tense! I switch all over the place. It wasn't so bad when I was just in Highlander fandom because the majority of stories are past tense. But X-Men First Class fandom has just as many or more present tense stories, and it mixes me up quite frequently.

Restin' right now. I might write sommat of the Kiina/MN fic but ain't gonna hold myself to anything.

YES YES I DO GET OUT OF MY HEAD FLAMINGO. I usually end up writing my posted fics in present tense because why not, but I find myself slipping into past tense because most fics are and also my collab writing (DING DONG THE THING IS DEAD) was in past tense. I also slipped into present tense on occasion while helping write that, but that wasn't as often as I slip into past when writing present. Present sounds better to me for my fics, but past is... decent. And the industry standard so I s'pose I'd better get used to it. XD

I'm rereading my hasty, sloppy fic from the week. Tempting to post it as is, clear my head to work on other projects, but I know I'll regret not polishing it. I have so many ideas I can't seem to nail down.

I'm trying to ignore a smut fic that won't leave my head tonight, it may have to be written eventually.

I tend to write past tense all the time as I find it more consistent. Sometimes in my outlining and notes I'll switch between tenses but only for the purposes of reminding myself what scene is next.

I've been traveling, so another week has passed where nothing got written. I took my stories with me, but had no time to even look at them! Ah, well....

I write in past tense exclusively in my WIPS, but I have done one or two short things in present tense -- they worked quite nicely that way!
