Today's discussion topic: Do you find it hard to stick to the same tense when writing? Or is changing the tense something you try when you find yourself stuck on a scene?

I don't tend to change tense very often. I've had one or two stories that worked better in present tense, but they were obvious early on in the writing. Most of my writing is in past tense, and I've never had trouble sticking with it.

I was busy today, and by the time I had some free time, I was too sleeping to write. I got lots of research and outlining done recently, so I should be able to just do it, if I can stop procrastinating!

I have little trouble staying with one tense. I write in past tense, except now and then for a short piece that seems to warrant being in present tense. It is a bit harder to write in present tense, but it works well when I need it to.

Had been working on my [livejournal.com profile] help_japan fic for the last few days. Able to make some progress, but suddenly realize I can change where the plot is going and will need to rewrite some scenes, oi. Also I'm at the big action scene but having trouble getting started. Originally I was going to have like nine versus one person, but I cut that to six versus one. Still going to be a bit cluttered, but more manageable at least, haha.

I stick to past tense when writing, though sometimes I might go present tense in a sentence or two by mistake. My betas tend to point those out for me.
