How's the writing going? I've been working on helping my daughter with some homework. I'm about to buckle down and write. It remains to be seen how much I'll get done today. It's still early.
Did you:
Write?

Today's discussion question: They say, "Write what you know." Do you tend to draw on your own experiences or areas of expertise when writing? Do you do a lot of research so that you can write about things with which you have no personal experience?
I try to write things that only require reviewing canon. I'm not very good at research. I seldom know where to start. I mean, Google is my friend, and I try not to simply make things up. I don't think I've written anything that draws on my particular areas of expertise. I'm not even sure what my areas of expertise are, now that I think about it.

Date: Friday, February 15th, 2013 19:23 (UTC)I like to include my own experiences and areas of expertise when I write as much as possible, because I think it adds a foundation of reality to everything. But if I don't know something, I research it quite thoroughly, and then I can write knowledgeably. I love, love, love doing research and I know how to do it, and can usually find everything I need (and then some). My problem is actually that it's so fun researching that I tend to do that instead of buckling down to the writing part. ;-)

Date: Saturday, February 16th, 2013 13:18 (UTC)It depends on what I need, sometimes I can use things from my own life and other times I have to do research before I can carry on with what I'm working on. I do sometimes research for the sake of it especially when I know an idea will never work out at all.
