Sorry to be posting this so late in the day. I let myself get distracted. I've been reviewing earlier chapters of my long WIP off and on today.

For discussion: What's the longest thing you've ever written? What did you like and dislike about writing at that length?

The longest thing I've written is my long WIP, Rheotaxis. It's at about 175,000 words right now. I like the scope it gives me for the story and for character development. I dislike the fact that I lose track of details that I meant to follow up on.

The longest story I've completed is 238,000 words long. I have a WIP that's at 199,000 and will probably be closer to 275,000 when it's done. I love novels. :)

The longest thing I've written was ~80,000 words of schmoopy popslash AU. I never finished or posted it - 80k was about halfway done.

The longest thing I've posted was another popslash AU, ~30k words.

I'm in the middle of a novel which will probably get up towards 75-80k. It's currently just over 26k and going rather well - I'm using my Tumblr to keep a note of how I'm doing each day, which is a useful keep-me-motivated tool.

The longest fic I posted was 19,700 words but the fic I've been working on for about 5 months is almost 18,900 words partly edited, and will be around 22k-23k when I post it.

I have a WIP that's sitting at around 144k now, which is the longest thing I've ever written. The longest COMPLETED story I've ever written is 91,480 words long.

Likes? Plenty of room to spread out and tell the story exactly as I please. (( have a fondness for long, involved, character-driven sex scenes.) Dislikes? None, really, except that it's a bit like running a marathon. ;)

I'm getting frustrated with Real Life that doesn't allow me time to even think about writing.

My current WIP stands at 133K words, and there is no end in sight. The longest completed fics I have are one at 20K and one at 26K -- the second one is the first story I wrote and posted; I plan on revising it and making it longer at some point, but I have too many other WIPs in the works at the moment, so I'm holding off on that one.

I like writing longer stories, because it gives me time to talk about details and develop characters. It's hard to keep going sometimes, though, so most of my long WIPs look like they are stalled to the reader who hasn't seen me update in awhile.
