Do you ever run into times when you know the story requires that something happen but you can't make it make sense with the characters? Which wins, the plot or the characters?
For me, the characters always win. If what's supposed to happen doesn't make sense with the characters, then I assume I've made a mistake in my planning. I have to find another way to move the plot forward.

Date: Thursday, October 24th, 2013 01:36 (UTC)There was a very definite point in one of my WIPs where I had to choose between the plot and the characters, and the characters eventually convinced me that the plot was wrong. I think if the plot has your characters doing something out of character, then it's not going to work. Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out what's out of character, but in the end, the plot has to adjust.
