Usually, I don't care all that much about crossovers, but there's one particular type I love: When it's the job of the characters of one fandom to figure things out and the the job of the other fandom's characters to conceal things, and both teams work against each other for a big part of the story. Think Sherlock investigating a murder that Torchwood is trying to redcon because it involves aliens, or the Supernatural guys getting on the wrong end of an NCIS investigation while hunting demons etc. Relatedly, I'm aleays wary of stories where the different teams get on very well from the start. Most of my canons involve teams and characters that are very close-knit, quirky, untrusting or territorial, so it seems more realistic (and fun!) to play with that.
The crossover I'm currently working on is my first crossover. So far it's been fun; I'm really enjoying the outsider POV.
