How's the writing going today?
Discussion: I liked your fic but I don't like the pairing.

Have you ever had reviews like that?
I think I've only had that and something similar to it about a particular pairing a few times but I do tend to write and often ship the rarer pairings that aren't as loved by fandoms that I'm involved with.

Date: Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 19:27 (UTC)I have gotten strange comments about pairings, but I can't recall any off the top of my head that were specifically of this type. Maybe in one of my fandoms of yore.

Date: Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 22:35 (UTC)I haven't written a "shipping" story yet, so I haven't had to deal with such comments. I've had similar remarks, however, when I write characters a different way than people expect to see them. "I like your fic but I don't think So and So would really be like that..."

Date: Thursday, March 6th, 2014 02:43 (UTC)Short version: I posted a friendship-centric fic (featuring one canonically gay character), labelled it Gen, and added "preslash if you lean that way" in the tags. It received a few comments, including one person who clearly preferred to see it as preslash (and to whom I replied that, yes, I had some unposted possible-sequel bits that were slash). One of the comments it received, though, was along the lines of 'I'm so glad it isn't slash, it doesn't NEED to be slash!'
I was just kind of amused, really, considering that I thought my tags made it pretty clear that I was open to a slash interpretation (and had confirmed a personal bias toward slash in the comments, though of course those might not have been read by the commenter) yet the comment was so emphatic about it being a non-slash fic. :D
