Discussion: using real events. Do you ever draw from real life events and experiences for your fic?

I find it depends on what I'm writing but also how I can make certain events and situations fit my characters and who they are as people, so to speak. Pretty much if I find that I have to use something from the real world I will and I also always make sure that there is nothing identifiable to myself, in terms of my offline life.

I've been awake far too long today and travelling home to Scotland since 7am so I'm likely going to give the rest of the day a miss and try again tomorrow with my writing. I did get some time when I was on the train to read through my handwritten chapters, notes and outlines for the section of Let Me Fade that I was working on before I put the fic on hiatus.

I often draw on real life if there is something appropriate to what I am working on. For instance, I once had a concussion, and that experience helped me write about a character with a head injury.
