How is the writing going today?
Discussion: resuming a wip. I know we had abandoning a WIP the other day but what about when you return to a WIP that you put on hold. Do you read through what you already wrote? Do you just jump in and hope the new things make sense? Something else?
I'm considering bringing my WIP off of hiatus and adding new chapters to it, the last time I updated it was in July so I know that I have to read through what I've already written and posted and then of course make sure the new things make sense to the overall arc.

Date: Friday, October 24th, 2014 01:12 (UTC)When I return to a WIP after being away from it for awhile, I look at my notes first for the next chapter -- I usually have some idea of what I was planning for that chapter before I got waylaid by real life, and I've almost always made an outline in advance of working on it. After that, I reread the last 5 chapters or so to get back into the story, and then go back and tweak the outline. The hardest thing to do is to get the first few sentences down to open the new chapter, but if I can get those going, I'm usually back in the groove of the story.
