Hello on Wednesday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today?

For Discussion:  Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

I prefer to rely on canon when I am writing, but I imagine there are some fanon elements that creep in from time to time.  Sometimes the way fans have interpreted certain situations just make more sense!  I have also found that the longer I am involved in writing, the harder it is to discern the line between canon and fanon, especially concerning certain characters who maybe don't receive a lot of emphasis in canon.  Writing hasn't really changed the original source material for me except to make me more aware of all the details, and that's a good thing!
