As I realize that the morning's passed with no writing done (I napped. I'm coming down with a cold), I'm wondering-- Just what represents a successful day of work?

I'm still in the midst of canon review for my Yuletide story, so I'm not putting any words down yet. I'm just thinking about the story and the characters and the voice. Unfortunately for me, canon review doesn't feel like a successful day's work. It's absolutely necessary, but until I start producing text, I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything.

Because it's a rare day when I actually can sit uninterrupted and write text, I consider a successful day of work any day on which I move forward in the process -- whether it be with research and canon review, solidifying ideas, working on my outline, or brainstorming to choose the best idea among many for a new prompt. That said, it's a really, really successful day when I get some text down and it makes sense!
