Tuesday Discussion - When writing a WIP that is not a fixed-length fic, do you have a word count goal in mind for your work that you aim to reach, or do you just let it be as long or as short as it "wants" to be?

I'm still struggling to find time to write, and today will definitely not be the day I find time.

I usually let fics be as long or short as they want to be, though I will try to get past 500 words if possible. One of the archives where I post my stories requests that fics be at least 500 words (shorter works are accepted, but they have to be treated differently, and it's easier to just have it be long enough!).
