Today's discussion topic: At what time of the day do you write best? Are you most productive in the morning when you've just woken up or do you burn the midnight oil?

I don't have a best time for writing, I just do it when I can. I get more ideas in the morning though, which can make it more productive, or more disrupted.

When I say I wrote today, I actually used the 750 words thing. I'm trying to make myself write online for a bit (rather than on paper) to see what comes of it. As for the fic, well Im concentrating on scenes I haven't already drafted to I can go in fresh and just have a single text without a page to type up or notes anywhere. Its going to be a disrupted weekend, so I want to work on something simple, especially someting I don't need to print out but can just dip into.

Still haven't done anything today but catch up with my circle, update my profile and read ^^;;;

I'm beginning to think that the more time I have, the less I feel like writing >.>

I don't really have a moment during which I write my best, but I know I can't write at night, because I already have troubles staying concentrate during the day. You can imagine how my attention waver when I'm tired ;p

Signed up for a ficathon - with a 1000-word minimum. O_O I amaze myself.

(Stargate SG-1, Sam/Bra'tac friendship, prompt "gender roles". I'm going to be doing a post-Changeling piece, I think. ACK THE RESEARCH... I haven't even watched SG-1 in months, and I've never seen most of S6. But I have ideas! *g*)

I didn't write anything new. What I did do was go through the exported file of all the stuff I wrote for 750 Words last month & pull out all the ficlets & save them in separate files. I do this every month, & every month there is at least one bit of fic that makes me happy & excited to keep going with it. It was a nice thing to do on a day when I felt like I didn't have the brain to write anything! Especially because I didn't even remember writing a lot of the ficlets, so they were extra-pleasant surprises.

I am a morning person in general, so it might be a neat idea for me to try writing first thing in the morning. I am also, unfortunately, one of those people that takes a long time to get ready for work (& I hate rushing), so I don't really want to try to get up even earlier. Generally I write in the early evening: after I've unwound a bit from work but before I start getting sleepy.

I'm going to try something new and deal with my writing day backwards. In the past, I have waited to answer the poll/check in post until I had something to report (whether good or bad). However, today I have answered according to how I HOPE it goes, since I haven't done anything yet. ;-)

I'm about to stop procrastinating and sit down and do some writing. Gonna put the music on and tune out everything else and see how far I get. I expect to write and edit (since I tend to edit as I go) and I may have to do a bit of research, too, since I always think of something in the midst of working that needs checking on. Since I'm already thinking positively, I will assume it's going to be the best thing I've ever done. Or at least somewhere on the scale between that and okay!

Oops, forgot to answer the rest of the question. I don't have a truly best time to write, though I think I do tend to burn the midnight oil and work better at night. Mornings are good, too, though, if I can get started instead of wasting my time surfing the net and being lazy! :-D

I did write a little, but I was distracted by my [community profile] kink_bingo card. >_> Sure, I did work out what I was going to write for each square, but still. XD

I've got some things to do today as well for dinner tonight (we're having people over) so that'll eat into my writing time, but I can cope.

I don't know if there is a certain time of the day I write best. It depends. Sometimes, inspiration strikes at whatever time of the day and I have to write. Sometimes I'm just inspired to write all day. Sometimes it's late at night, sometimes in the afternoon. IDK. Definitely not straight when I wake up though. I need a few hours to wake up first. :P

Wrote 860 words today. Fic is still going, I'm quite enthused with it (which means I'm rarin' to have it grow to the 20k word minimum.)

At what time of the day do you write best? Are you most productive in the morning when you've just woken up or do you burn the midnight oil?

Early evening (7-10 PM) is my ideal writing time. I've shaken off the day, have eaten dinner and can push myself into writing and editing fic without passing out in exhaustion. Sometimes, if things are quiet at work, I can sneak 200 to 500 words, but that's rare. Being more of a night person, my attempts at writing early in the morning have been, hmmm, let's call them laughable, OK?

I really wish I could do the writing-in-the-morning thing.

Funnily enough, I'm giving 750words a try (for the third time). It seems to be working so far (though I wish I was writing more. >_>)

Every so often, we all need to recharge our writing batteries. Though, like everything in excess, catching up with the circle, etc can eat up writing time too. Do you think you could do a short-ish writing session (like 25 minutes? 30? an hour?) You'd be surprised by how many words you can end up with after a while.

Yay for ideas! I hope that your SG-1 fic bunneh hangs around long enough to get that fic done. :)

LOL, this had happened to me a few times when I look in my WIPs folder. I get all "huh? When did I write this? What did I wanted to do with it?"

Hee, I've seen many people in my circle squee to their hearts' content about their KB cards. Though very, verrrry tempted, I'm once again not participating in that bingo. I *would* say that it's because I don't want to feel pressured about completing any more challenges EXCEPT that I decided to sign up for a Big Bang that has a 10k-word minimum. *facepalms*

If I wasn't on a break from uni for the next couple of months, I probably wouldn't have signed up either. I already have one big bang to finish by the end of the month, and I signed up for [community profile] kinked big bang as well, which I'm planning to work on next month. I am a glutton for punishment. At some point, I will finish all this writing and also not manage to fail uni as well. 8D

It went pretty well, actually. Thanks for the vibes! I did a bunch of thinking and planning and research, and also managed to write about 370 new words. That moves me far enough along towards the next bit I need to write that I can sit on it now for a day and let the research and the thoughts simmer until more words break out. ;-)

I found that zoho just ate my word. It made me not so willing to edit it further. And then I was distracted by my kink_bingo card. Maybe I would write later.

I write when I can. I don't have any specific time to write.

I wrote 3000 words today and I'm still going! Add that to the 2000 I wrote yesterday and I've got... a whole lot of pwp. Ah well, it's a nice break, I suppose.

I usually write at night. That's when I do most things, actually. My brain's always worked better at night. I'll occasionally try writing in the afternoon, but it rarely works out well. Too much going on then!

I tend to burn the midnight oil, which doesn't always work so well.

Getting some scenes blocked out pretty roughly. It's a start, at least!

No writerly/ficly things yesterday. Well, I did post some more of my RH fic to the RH only archive. And I worked on another fic project for a friend, but other than that...zip.

I can actually write at anytime except late evenings/late night. I am NOT a night owl.

Early morning is the best for writing love scenes because a) it's quiet and no one else is up to distract or interrupt me and b) that's when the connection between right brain and left brain are most relaxed and I feel least tense--I should stay I'm still pretty sleepy and my defenses are down. I'm least inhibited by my own performance anxiety.

I'm trying, but I get constantly distracted by something else ^^;;
Starting tomorrow, I'll force myself to at least write half an hour per day. (maybe I should begin with that, as it might keep me from going sucked up with my f-list/reading page ;p)

Indeed it is. I even got two KB fics written last night too. All I need to do is some revision on them and that's two squares down. XD /productive.

Yes, well both really, but I find paper very convienient and, well, comforting. It adds a stp in the editing process, which I'm now rather regretting, but at least its a way of getting it down so it can't be forgotten.

The disrupted weekend is not all bad, some fun stuff too.

Hope its going well for you.
