Question: How flexible are you when it comes to following canon for your 'fics? (If you do original works, how flexible are you when it comes to following your own canon?)

Yesterday I had a guest for pretty much the whole day, so couldn't really get to any writing. Today I have high hopes for getting more accomplished in the writing line!

I like to follow canon pretty closely for the most part. That said, in one of my fics, the whole point of the tale is to take canon and change it to keep certain characters alive, and then to see how close I can stick to canon with the story actually changed. Not sure that's being flexible or not!
