Date: Sunday, January 6th, 2019 17:48 (UTC)Interestingly enough, this weekend has been one of those weekends where we are both home and my partner has not had their own projects, so I have also not gotten any writing done as of yet. Because fanfic is a hobby this is 100% fine - if I were writing original works to sell, I would seriously need to consider a separate writing space so that I could dedicate time to writing every day. I do hope to get something done later tonight if I can.

Date: Sunday, January 6th, 2019 18:50 (UTC)The thing that keeps me from writing is twofold -- being tired from work and the internet. I tend to resort to non-brain activities when I'm tired, and the internet is just made for that. So when I surf instead of write, I am zero productive. I'm working at changing that by making a habit of writing in the morning at a set time, before doing internet things like checking email and making my usual internet rounds. So far so good!

Date: Sunday, January 6th, 2019 22:19 (UTC)I am going to write today. Prime time for me has become the region between 7 PM (EDT) and 9 PM (EDT), regardless of the day, and I have no idea why that is, since I traditionally write most easily in the early morning. *headscratch* Then again, I am going to start before 7 PM today, so who knows?
My Kryptonite is a lack of free time ... or, rather, too many hobbies having to share the free time I do have. I love to write, yes, but I also love to read books and play video games, and none of these hobbies like to share time with each other. (And do not get me started on my love of streaming video!) Despite all the years I have put into fanfic, this is a balance that continues to be very difficult for me to find.

Date: Sunday, January 6th, 2019 23:07 (UTC)finally! My Kryptonite is sometimes a combo of a lack of free time, hobbies like gaming or reading, and then attempting to be a social non-lurking person. Or being too tired, that's sometimes also a thing for me.

Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019 02:07 (UTC)Writing is a difficult hobby in that it's such a solo activity, so even if you live alone it can be very isolating to sequester yourself and write every time you have a free moment. Good luck to finding the balance!

Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019 02:11 (UTC)Yes, I think many of us have more than one hobby that we enjoy outside of fanfic, so it can be difficult to balance how much time we are on laptops typing and what else we do (reading, gaming, crafting, etc). Today I had my D&D group here from 1-7pm so between set up and clean up plus the actual gaming time, I've lost most of my day off to attacking the heroes with hordes of monsters. It was a blast, though!

Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019 02:14 (UTC)My Kryptonite used to be feeling hopeless, either in general or specifically regarding my writing, but I think I've finally achieved sufficient
decrepitudesenilitymaturity to focus on things that really matter. Like other people's atrocious taste in music.no subject
Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019 02:14 (UTC)Surfing my Instagram feeds is such a delightful timesuck - I can empathize with you on this! Good luck with the proposed schedule change. I hope it helps you to have dedicated time during an earlier time of the day.

Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019 02:21 (UTC)I have struggled with that sort of writing block for many years. I would write and erase and re-write so many times, instead of simply writing a draft and polishing it later on. If it wasn't "perfect" I couldn't move on, and not being able to write it "perfectly" on the first go was crushing. Now that I'm older I don't care a much. I can draft and edit and I don't put so much on myself to be perfect (that's level of stress is for original fiction IMO).
