How is the writing going today? What about the last two days?
Discussion: research. How much time do you spend on research (including canon review)? Do you research before you start? Do you research as you're writing?

Date: Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 16:06 (UTC)I find research to be an excellent form of procrastination, and I've basically stopped doing it before writing (excluding canon review). If I need to research something, I google it in the moment. I've wasted so much time 'researching' when I was just afraid to commit to putting the words on page. Fortunately, I don't write things that need an excessive amount of research.
However, I do canon review pretty regularly, it recharges me and keeps the character voice fresh.

Date: Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 23:26 (UTC)I probably spend a lot of time researching, mostly because I really love doing it. I do quite a bit of research before starting, but usually have to also do some while I'm writing. If I can, I put a placeholder in as I am going so I don't have to stop, but sometimes I just stop, go research, then come back to writing

Date: Thursday, July 11th, 2019 02:55 (UTC)I research as I'm writing, generally, for what I need to be able to write any one scene, which occasionally means initial research just to have the story work (I need to know all the details possible so I can decide which ones to include or not to include - handwaving is very difficult for me).
