Discussion: do you listen to music when you're writing? do you prefer silence?

Writing hasn't been going too well for me recently.

Listening to music while writing depends on how much background noise is going on. I will turn on classical/other instrumental music if there's a lot of noise going on, but other than that I do better with silence.

I clicked on "dealt with life" in the poll for today because that's what I have most recently been doing, but I forgot I did some planning this morning, so I did get a bit of writing related activity in!

I have found that I write better if I listen to instrumental music. If it has words, I can't concentrate. Silence works, too, but things seem to go better with music.
