Hello, how are the WIPs going?
For discussion: How many fandoms are you active in? What's the most you've followed at one time? Are they complimentary or does it feel like having split loyalites? Has being in more than one ever inspired you to write a crossover?

Date: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 20:04 (UTC)Right now I'm really only active in one fandom (Natsume Yuujinchou ♥), though occasionally I will write in other fandoms. Not a ton, though; probably I only have about 6 or 7 that I'd feel all right writing in. Sometimes it feels like split loyalties -- my much-delayed help_japan fic is in K-On! fandom & I only really have energy for Natsume right now. ^^;;; I've drafted the help_japan fic, it just needs... really severe editing. & an ending.
I've only ever written a crossover between two baseball anime series (Ookiku Furikabutte & Princess Nine, in case anyone's curious!). That was kind of easy & obvious, though!

Date: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 20:56 (UTC)I'm only in Hikago (Hikaru no Go) fandom for the moment, but I read all over the place. I might consider podficcing for another fandom but not writing at the moment. Writing is too absorbing and I need it to be focused, hence my bunny donations to comment fic threads.
The only crossover I considered was Hikago/Casper, but my idea turned out really angsty and a difficult combination for cultural reasons - I don't know if I'll ever do it.

Date: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 21:01 (UTC)I mostly write in one single fandom, though I do like reading in multiple ones. I just don't follow them with the same intensity.

Date: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 23:13 (UTC)I'm at least somewhat active in four fandoms right now, plus I also have a few wips in some other, very small fandoms. I guess this is the most I've ever followed at one time. I'm monofannish during the initial honeymoon period when I discover a new fandom, but after that I'm happy to be in several ones at the same time. I like having multiple fandoms, although trying to write fics in several fandoms at the same time sometimes makes my head spin. I do have one crossover in progress and ideas for a few others.

Date: Thursday, August 18th, 2011 02:22 (UTC)I'm only really active in one fandom right now, though I lurk and occasionally write for two others. I actually feel pretty weird about it. Back in my fannish heyday (lol, high school) I was probably following a dozen fandoms and ficcing in at least half of those... now, I feel less well-rounded and like I'm limiting myself. I think a lot of this is my own insecurity and lack of time. I don't feel comfortable writing for fandoms I'm not very familiar with, and I've lacked the time or initiative to get into anything with a really big, involved canon lately.
But, interestingly enough, not before last week have I ever wanted to try doing a crossover. It's totally a "crack" thing inspired by my FL at another site, and in two fandoms I've never been active in. Maybe, one day...

Date: Thursday, August 18th, 2011 03:01 (UTC)But not today! I managed ~2.5k worth of time travel fic for
...I find it hard to say if I'm actually active in any fandoms, since mine are all (or most are) fandoms of one. But I don't have any active fandoms any more in the sense of fandoms that involve more than just me and my cracky imagination. I love all my little obscure fandoms, even if no one else does. ;_;
I suppose the benefit of writing for interconnected fandoms is that crossovers are not only possible but encouraged. So that's never much of an issue. I quite like them, and they all go well together. There are enough linkages to make these things work.
Certainly Glitter is an epic crossover and a half, as are several of my fics. But most of my fandoms are RPF and it's a bit easier to make crossovers work in that regard.

Date: Thursday, August 18th, 2011 03:32 (UTC)Right now I only write and read in Marvel fandom. But I did read all over the place back when I was a lurker in another fandom. It felt complimentary though.
I don't write much crossover except writing to prompt. My current long fic is a Supernatural-inspired Marvel comics fic though.
