Hello, I'm johanna, another one of the mods. Glad to see people here!
I have been in fandom for quite a long time, but usually (aside from forays into cosplay circa 2000 or so) as an observer, or really, just talking meta with my friends.
I write mostly what one would call "creative nonfiction" (or narrative nonfiction?) I guess: I've been doing zines (& various other similar types of writing) on & off since I was in high school in the early '90s. It's not that I don't ever feel insecure about that kind of writing, but it is fairly comfortable & familiar to me.
By way of contrast: until recently, I hadn't written anything fictional, excepting one abomination of an Obernewtyn fic, in 15+ years. Thus when I was sucked back into writing fic, it triggered mega imposter syndrome. Hence why I thought this comm was such a good idea!
Also, I hadn't paid that much attention to fic for much of my time in fandom, so I feel behind; everything my friends learned years ago feels a bit intimidating to pick up on. I hope this comm can be a friendly supportive space for questions & fumblings.
Fandom-wise, right now I am mostly anime-focused. Most of the fic I've been willing to post thus far is from Ookiku Furikabutte. I write m/m, m/f, f/f, gen, & probably more variants to come.
Things I struggle with: relying too much on the same words (sex noises can be described as things other than moans!); the use of Japanese names/honorifics (aside from a very basic understanding); switching tenses (though so far I seem to be all right at catching myself before posting); &... I could go on. And on. Maybe later!
I wouldn't be here & writing fic without 750 Words. Having a private space to allow myself to write through the crap, & get into the habit of writing every day, has been invaluable.
I look forward to hearing from more people! If you have ideas on what you want out of this community, please let us know.
