Discussion question...which came first? the chicken or the um, fan fiction or original fiction? (If you write O-fic, that is.)

The heavily derivative O-Fic came first. I still think about some of those stories and some of those worlds from time to time. One of them (heavily influenced from having seen Fire and Ice, Beastmaster, Conan and Raiders of the Lost Arc early age) involved an elevated causeway that ran through a lot of ruined civilzations and the adventures my heroine had walking down it.

---

The plan is to work on longhanding a bit more into the WIP notebook and some work 2nd drafting the story I finished first drafting earlier this month.

I wrote over 1K today filling in missing bits a pieces from my fic. Its still got to lose some drafted bits so the word count is going up and down all the time. Ive no idea what it will be in the end.

The only fiction Ive ever written is fanfic, bar a few exercises for courses and what I did at school. I think of them as different categories and fanfic as more a fruit of my fannishness than my will to write.

How does your association react to you writing fanfiction? Are they supportive?

Some more editing -- slow going, but something is happening, which is good! -- & a bit more random snippety things. Still working towards trying to figure out some character motivation stuff for one of my fics.

I wrote original fiction as a kid but haven't written any in ages. I don't really have the urge anymore, for whatever reason.

There are a couple of gals with whom I share one fandom and then a pair of different ladies with whom I share another fandom.

That's great.

In reality, if I'm not pursuing romance writing for publication, I shouldn't even be in the group

That's less great but I suppose its intended to narrow the variability of genres andbring people together who speak the same fictional language, follow the same rules and have the same goals.

I managed 2000 words of fic for my Original Character Big Bang fic. As it's been stalled, this is a Good Thing! I might be writing the end when the middle hasn't finished happening but at least I'm writing!

Although I've a soft spot for Original Characters in fanfic, I've never written original fic at all, or recently at least. I did about 25 years ago but it never really went anywhere as full time employment happened and interrupted.

Another good day - a 2200 word one-shot done and posted!

Fanfic came first for me. I've done a few pieces of O-fic over the years, but I far prefer doing fanfic. I didn't feel anywhere near the joy and anticipation working on original stuff that I do working on fic. Plus, with fic I've got a ready-made audience base.

Today I was in the mood for working on the secondary WIP, and wrote about 1K words in notes and a few hundred in actual prose. It's been a few days since I did some reading, so I'll spend the rest of the evening on that.

I was the type of kid that had been drawing my own characters and making up stories for them for about as long as I could hold a pencil, but I only really got into fanfiction when I was in middle school. Unfortunately, I haven't written nearly as much original fiction (or finished any big original projects) as I'd like. Hopefully that'll change some time in the future.

No time today to even think about writing, whew!

I remember writing an original story (a mystery, I think it was) when I was fairly young. I wish I still had it, I'd like to see what it was like! I remember feeling the ending was lame because I got to the end and couldn't figure out how to end it properly. My mom saved it for some time, but I haven't found it to this day.

Aside from that, I'd say fan fiction really came first. I like working with established characters and worlds and timelines, which somehow allows me a lot more flexibility in the creation of new ideas and original characters to fit into those worlds than I think I would have if I tried my hand at O-fic.

I did a lot of writing, but none for fic-related purposes, so the muse had a day off.

Original fiction came first for me. There was this seemingly endless fic - okay, it only came out at 20k in the end, but it did take three years and three completely different versions to get there. Writing it was a lot of fun and probably a good exercise, too, but I can't say I feel like going back to it. Fanfic's just fine for me now.

Got about 150 words written yesterday, which is not great but better than the last couple of days. I just really need to get the ball rolling now.
