Tell us about your writing endeavors for the day. Have you...

~ taken the day off to refresh the muse
Thanks so much for chiming on your peeves. That was a great discussion yesterday. If you missed it, you should go check it out.
Today's discussion question...make that questions....
1. What's your favorite fic genre? PWP?, fluff, angst, slash, romance, etc... a combination?
2. Do you have real life friends/acquaintances that also participate in fannish pursuits? How did you come to find out about this person's fannish tendencies?
3. Have you ever attended a (major) fan fest type of event? If so when and for which fandom?

Date: Thursday, September 8th, 2011 23:55 (UTC)1) Angst is my default setting, although I've done little bits of fluff, comedy, romance, whatever. And I'll read a variety of different genres, if the author's good.
2) Most of my close friends I've met through fandom. I don't think it's worked the other way around, that I've known someone at work or another "normal" arena and found out they were a fan. That hasn't happened since college, when I found out that my cousin's then-girlfriend wrote fic.
3) Conventions? Oh heck yes. I've been to a bunch for Star Trek, Quantum Leap, Supernatural, Buffy, some others over the years. I've also helped organize a couple and was a guest at two (for QL).

Date: Friday, September 9th, 2011 00:17 (UTC)1) It's hard for me to pick just one! I gravitate toward friendship fics, comedies, and angst or h/cm I'd guess?
2) I've been perpetually part of the "nerd" group, and a lot of my friends in middle school drew fanart. I actually met my college clique through LJ before I left for campus, and they did a lot of iconing and occasional fanfic stuff. Since then, a lot of the people have moved on to doing original things if they still do artsy stuff at all.
3) Nothing big like a con. I really don't like huge events... the closest things like that was probably the brief stint I had with my university's anime club. :/

Date: Friday, September 9th, 2011 01:42 (UTC)My favorite genre to write is epic plot based romance, though I'm not good at them, so I only have like one per fandom to my credit. To read, probably the same--though some good angst can be nice. Comedy is always good--read one today that made me laugh out loud. I guess anything that's well written works for me. Though slash isn't my favorite, if the plot seems interesting, I'm willing to give it a try.
I do have RL friends who used to write fic, though not so much anymore. I'm the lone wolf there.
As for major events, no not really. I do get together annually with a group of gals who all got together through the show JAG. In 2010 we went to Corpus Christi TX for the annual meet-up to visit the USS Lexington where parts of JAG's pilot was filmed. Usually, we just meet in my local area at someone's house for a weekend of visiting and eating.

Date: Friday, September 9th, 2011 02:21 (UTC)1. Favorite fic genre? Slightly angsty romance. With happy endings.
2. Sadly, no. I tried. And now I stop letting myself in for the beating.
3. I've been to a couple smaller cons. But its been years since I went to one.

Date: Friday, September 9th, 2011 09:32 (UTC)My favourite would have to be fluff. I will read just about anything and enjoy it too, often love it to bits, but something about well written and in character fluff just makes me sigh with happiness.
I've never met anyone off line who did anything remotely fannish nor been to a con or anything like it :(

Date: Friday, September 9th, 2011 19:50 (UTC)1. If someone can put bits of all of the genres you mention into one long story then I think they will have me as a fan. But I know its difficult. Ive tried to mix, with...mixed results.
2. No, most people I know in real life are too old, too young or too busy to be interested.
