Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 16:28 (UTC)Anyway, discussions... :D
Yes, I've co-written a story. The first time I started writing anything with a friend, it was a sort of comment-fic - we ended up writing it in comments in someone else's LJ - and the mutual friend isn't even in the fandom we got writing about.
It ended up being the first of three crack-fics, all written in the same way. We haven't really written anything else together, though we have written for each other, and I have remixed a couple of my friend's stories. We really ought to sit down and do more, but we haven't really had the time or inspiration. Yet. :D

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 16:36 (UTC)I've co-written a couple of stories. I used to co-write original stuff back with a friend back in middle school, but that never worked out too well. A while back, I wrote a fic with a friend over IM which was pretty well-received (though I think it was more her shippiness than my contributions!). If it counts, I currently live with my brother who's somewhat into fandom stuff and he's a hoot to bounce ideas off of.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 16:40 (UTC)Hahah, this is exactly how I feel right now! XD
I think co-writing, at least in current fandom, really lends itself to crack-fics. Though they're usually not my cup of tea for reading, they're fun to spin up with friends, and I'm guilty of doing this a lot (even if they never get posted!). Anyhow, it's so cool that you have a friend that you can write with and for so often!

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 17:52 (UTC)I co-wrote one story for a challenge with a friend way back in my X-Files days which turned out pretty good and was quite well received at the time too. Haven't done a co-write since though.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 19:11 (UTC)Yes...co-writing. I had a friend who had some genuine writing talent, but could never seem to get the right break. So an opportunity came along for me, and I asked my editor, could I co-write this with someone? And she said yes. I told my friend, who went into full OMG! twirling mode.
Then she couldn't/wouldn't write anything, despite our being under contract. Maybe she froze up under the pressure; I don't know. After 4 months she'd come up with about a page and a half (out of our required 75,000 words).
Not gonna do that again. Once burned, twice shy, for sure.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 20:18 (UTC)I'm sorry that happened! That sounds like it was a really rough experience! There's definitely a lot more working with people than just talent... but maybe you'd be willing to try on a lower-pressure project? Though I can understand how a situation like that could discourage anyone from going that road again!

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 20:19 (UTC)*sigh* Haven't written anything in five days. I've gotten to that stage of not-having-anything-to-do where I'm just reading all day because I'm too apathetic to attempt anything else... thank god uni starts in two weeks.
I've... sort of co-written before? I wrote a story that I then sent to a friend to beta... except instead of betaing it she practially re-wrote the entire thing. :P

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 20:46 (UTC)I've never cowritten a story! Small fandoms, blah blah, etc.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 20:54 (UTC)Ive never cowritten. Its an interesting idea. But, in Hikago fandom, poeple tend to be quite different from one another. It wouldn't be easy to find someone on the exact same wavelength.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 21:26 (UTC)Oh, definitely - there's a lot more involved in a partnership than just talent. It was a few years ago, and I can see now that the pressure probably was too much for her. I think in a way, it's easier to dream of getting that big break, and having it succeed in a big way, than to actually jump into the deep end of the pool and face possible failure.

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 23:15 (UTC)Hahah, not sure if that counts, but that certainly sounds like it's not quite beta-ing at that point... :S

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 23:20 (UTC)And I totally know how the small fandom thing goes, especially if you don't join them when they're at their peak. It's tough... :/

Date: Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 23:26 (UTC)A lot of variation in the fandom can be a good thing, but I can see how that could get in the way of corroboration... >_>

Date: Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 02:41 (UTC)I've participated in a round-robin/fanfic tumble kind of thing which involved a number of us taking turns on various stories that all started out the same, but each one ended up quite differently. It was actually quite fun and a real stretch to take someone else's ideas and move the story along. In the end, the various parts made an interesting whole.

Date: Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 08:14 (UTC)I co-wrote a couple short comedy stories before and it was fun. I'm considering collaborating another fic with a friend, this time on a long smut fic, LOL. The only thing is the both of us have totally different writing styles over how we write porn, so I'm not sure how that will turn out. XD;
